Tuffy

TUFFY was an owner surrender to the Animal Care and Control if NYC (NYCACC), the city municipal shelter. The reason was a real doozy....BECAUSE HE WASN'T NEUTERED. <br/><br/>Was he supposed to make a neuter appointment and drive himself?<br/><br/>The shelter is a busy, crowded place and Tuffy almost lost his life.<br/><br/>He was so scared at the shelter and wasn't acclimating well at all. <br/><br/>An amazing woman stepped up to save his life.<br/><br/>These are TUFFY'S stats:<br/><br/>Approximate age 5 YEARS OLD<br/>Approximate weight 50 LBS<br/>Breed (s) PIT MIX<br/>Spayed or neutered? YES<br/>Good with: kids? over 10<br/>Strangers? YES with proper intros<br/>Other dogs? YES with proper intros<br/>Cats? N/A<br/>On leash? Yes some pulling but he’s working on it, once he gets his initial excitement out will walk just in front or beside you <br/>Housetrained? YES<br/>Crate trained? YES<br/><br/>Tuffy would do great with someone who is home, & can walk him few times a day. Right now Tuffy is taken for 1-3 walks a day about a mile each (less when it’s been very hot) . He is very much a cuddler & will lie with you on the couch. He is very good motivated, knows commands like “sit” “crate” “out”. He loves his rope toy, does great in the car, & loves being outside or with his people. He will frequently fall asleep with the 14 year old he lives with & loves to be close to you. <br/> <br/>Tuffy makes a “protest” face where he shows his teeth, never threatening, but quite funny to see (video available- just ask!)<br/><br/>Tuffy needs some more work on walking, starts off pulling but quickly settles in, just very excited. Working with Tuffy on slowing down when eating, would benefit from a dog bowl to aid in slowing down eating. Loves treats, takes them gently from foster mom & the boys. Currently lives with 10 year old hound mix (they give each other space & distance without barriers) & is very sweet to his foster mom & the boys (ages 10 & 14) . Tuffy will be vocal first but is super sweet, and adjusts very quickly. He’s a great dog & will make a great addition to a family! <br/><br/>Tuffy is a high energy love bug. He is very sweet and loving. He needs a family who is home with him a lot and willing to make sure he stretches his legs a few times a day. I am a mom of 2 boys & one hound mix penny. I have a long history of owning dogs of different breeds , Tuffy is my first foster dog, and became part of the family very quickly. Tuffy is eager to learn and love, great dog . I have loved my time with him!
