Tucker's Story

Tucker is a 4-year-old Retired Research Beagle looking for his forever home. He is crate-trained and working on house training. He is good with cats, other dogs and with kids. Tucker is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to become part of your family.

His name is Tucker and this fine young gentleman is a bit shy at first and more into cuddles than playtime or works. He gets along fine with the other dog and cats in his foster home. Tucker is doing well with his house training but will need his foster family to complete training in his forever home. Tucker is crate trained, sleeps there through the night and takes daytime naps in his crate. When left alone at home, Tucker is crated and has always kept his crate clean and dry. While Tucker does walk on lead, this is another skill that needs to be completed by his forever family. He is a good eater, however he eats slow and makes multiple trips to his bowl. To date, he has not shown any interest in chewing inappropriate objects i.e., furniture or woodwork. Tucker has yet to fully develop his barking skills - he is capable of barking but has done little to this date. Tucker is still learning about toys but once that happens, his play skills will shine. He does fine riding in the car but can still be frightened by sudden loud noises or machinery like lawn tools and mowers. He is starting to learn basic commands and is eager to please his human companions. We think Tucker would do well in a home with a fenced in yard for him to explore along with the children in the family. If Tucker seems like a good fit for you, get the Adoption Process started by submitting an Adoption Application.

Tucker very recently joined our rescue. As we learn more about him, this post will be updated. He will be ready to go home in mid-July.

If you're interested in adopting Tucker, please first read about our adoption process. Then, complete an adoption application found at www.happypawsrescue.org under the *ADOPT* tab. Thank you for your interest in adopting!

You may not know it, but you might have a BEAGLE to thank for your medicines! Beagles are used for safety testing of human and veterinary medicines for the same reasons that they make good pets; they're small and gentle-natured. Where does Happy Paws Rescue come into the picture? On a regular basis, research facilities have beagles that they release to us. It gives us and you a chance to give back to these sweet dogs that have contributed to the advancement of science. Please email us if you're ready to be a giant hero in the eyes of a little dog!

Thinking about adopting me? Heres how:
1. Fill out an application found at www.happypawsrescue.org under the *ADOPT* tab.
2. Please allow 5-7 business days for us to review and respond to your application.
3. Approved applicants will be invited to come meet me at a scheduled meet and greet or adoption event.
4. If both you and the rescue agree that the dog you meet is a good fit for your home, you will fill out an adoption contract and exchange a small adoption fee. Your dog can go home the day of the Meet & Greet.
5. We generally adopt to families within a 90 mile radius of our home base in Piscataway, NJ but may consider farther distances in the tri-state region if volunteers are available. If you live beyond our geographical boundaries, we hope you will contact rescue organizations closer to your home.

Our Mission
To apply for a cat or dog, visit our website at www.happypawsrescue.org. We specialize in the rescue of dogs and cats from high-kill shelters where the prospect of permanent placement is unlikely. We also serve as an educational resource for the public regarding the prevention of cruelty to animals, in addition to spay and neuter awareness to reduce the population of homeless and stray dogs and cats. By working with committed volunteers and veterinarians, we provide all dogs and cats in our care with medical attention and a safe haven prior to placement in their permanent, loving homes.
