Truffle's Story
A Little Truffle With a Whole Lot of Soul
Hi, I'm Truffles about 5ish years old. Yes, like the fancy little chocolates, except I'm 27 pounds of wrinkles, short legs, squishy cheeks, and pure sweetness. I'm somewhere between three and four years old, and while I may be built like a tiny bulldozer, I have the heart of a marshmallow. I know my face gives off a slightly serious, possibly judgmental expression, but don't let that fool you. I'm actually one of the gentlest little girls you'll ever meet. I'm affectionate, easygoing, and happiest when I'm surrounded by people and dogs who make me feel safe. I don't need to be the center of attention every second, but I certainly appreciate knowing where my humans are at all times. After all, somebody has to supervise this household, and I take that responsibility very seriously.
My Past Is a Mystery, but My Future Doesn't Have to Be
I can't tell you exactly how I ended up needing rescue, and honestly, I'd rather focus on where I'm going than where I've been. What I can tell you is that I'm still figuring out this whole business of being loved, having a routine, and understanding that the people who care about me aren't going to disappear. Sometimes the simplest things take me a little longer to understand, not because I'm stubborn or unwilling, but because I'm still learning to trust the world around me. My foster family has been showing me what a normal, happy dog life looks like, and I'm slowly discovering that it's actually a pretty wonderful place to be.
The Great Backyard Negotiations
My foster mom has this enormous backyard, and once I'm out there, I absolutely love it! There's sunshine to soak up, grass to stroll through, interesting things to sniff, and other dogs to watch while they go about their very important dog business. The funny part is getting me to actually GO outside. You would think watching all my foster siblings head out the door would be enough motivation, but apparently I like to keep everyone guessing. I know where the door is, I understand the general concept, and yet sometimes I stand there looking at everyone like they've just suggested I take a trip to the moon. I'm not opposed to the backyard; I simply believe all major outings deserve a little consideration before departure.
Excuse Me, I Thought We Were Going to the Kitchen!
Mornings are particularly entertaining because I know there's a routine, but I occasionally have my own interpretation of how that routine should unfold. While everyone else is heading outside for potty time, I sometimes decide the kitchen sounds like a much more appealing destination. Can you blame me? That's where the food lives! My foster mom gently redirects me with a few encouraging words and some little "scoot scoots," and eventually I make my way outside like that was my plan all along. I'm mostly potty trained, although I still have an occasional accident. We're working on building my confidence and helping me understand that going outside doesn't mean I'm being left behind. With patience, consistency, and reassurance, I'm getting better at navigating this whole routine.
Moch and Me: The Lowrider Wrestling Federation
Now, before you decide I'm just a quiet little couch ornament, allow me to introduce you to my foster sister, Moch. This girl is my partner in crime, my wrestling opponent, and quite possibly my favorite source of entertainment. Put the two of us together and suddenly you've got 54-ish pounds of lowrider chaos rolling around like two furry potatoes fighting over the last french fry. We wrestle, tumble, playfully mouth each other, and carry on for a solid 45 minutes like we're competing for a championship belt. It's ridiculous, it's hilarious, and it's probably the most athletic either of us will ever look. Then, just as quickly as the madness begins, we're exhausted and ready to collapse into a well-earned nap. Professional athletes need their recovery time, you know.
A Little Less Hearing, A Whole Lot More Living
I also underwent TECA surgery, and I am happy to report that I have healed beautifully! My ears may not work quite like they used to, and I am a little hard of hearing, but that certainly hasn't slowed me down. I'm thriving, enjoying life, and soaking up every bit of love that comes my way. You might just have to speak a little louder to get my attention, but trust me, once I know you're talking to me, I'm all ears! Well, figuratively speaking, of course. My hearing might not be perfect, but my heart works just fine, and I've got plenty of love to give!
Sunshine, Snuggles, and Supervising the Neighborhood
When I'm not busy defending my wrestling title, I'm actually a pretty laid-back little lady. I love wandering around the yard, finding a comfortable patch of sunshine, and watching the world go by. I enjoy being around other dogs and seem to take comfort in their company, even when I'm not actively playing with them. I'm also quite happy following my humans around, checking in on what they're doing, and making sure nobody has wandered off without notifying me. I don't need constant entertainment or a packed social calendar. Give me a comfortable place to relax, some canine companionship, a little sunshine, and people who enjoy having a short-legged shadow, and I'm perfectly content.
The Face Says Judgment, but the Heart Says Love
I realize I have one of those faces that looks like I'm silently questioning every decision you've ever made. My eyebrows have opinions, my wrinkles have wrinkles, and my little underbite certainly doesn't help my case. But underneath that serious expression is an incredibly gentle, affectionate girl who genuinely enjoys being loved. I don't have to push my way into every situation or demand that the entire household revolve around me. I'm perfectly happy just being included, knowing I belong, and having the freedom to be my sweet, slightly goofy self. And once you see me wrestling with Moch or wandering around the yard on these little legs, I promise that serious face becomes even funnier.
Confidence Isn't Built Overnight
One of the most important things my future family needs to understand is that I'm still building confidence. New routines and unfamiliar situations may require extra encouragement, and I need someone who won't mistake my hesitation for disobedience. I do best with calm, consistent guidance and people who understand that trust is something we build together. Freedom Frenchie Rescue believes strongly in allowing dogs time to decompress, and I am definitely a girl who will benefit from that patience. Please don't rush me into everything at once or expect me to have life completely figured out the moment I walk through your door. Give me structure, reassurance, and the opportunity to learn at my own pace, and you'll get to watch my personality blossom.
My Perfect Forever Home
I'd love a home with people who appreciate a gentle, affectionate companion but also have a sense of humor about the occasional bulldog shenanigans. Another friendly, playful dog could be a wonderful match for me because I genuinely enjoy canine companionship, especially when there's an opportunity for a good wrestling session. I'd also love a family who understands that my potty training is still a work in progress and who will continue helping me build confidence with a predictable routine. I don't need perfection, expensive toys, or someone who expects me to become a different dog. I need patience, kindness, consistency, and a family who sees the beautiful little soul underneath all these wrinkles.
One Little Truffle, One Very Big Promise
Here's what I hope you understand about me. I may not be the dog who races through the door ready to conquer the world on day one. I might need a little encouragement to go outside, a little reassurance when things feel unfamiliar, and an occasional reminder that the backyard is not, in fact, the kitchen. But I have so much love to give, and every day I'm learning how wonderful life can be when you're surrounded by people who care. I'll make you laugh with my serious little face, entertain you with my lowrider wrestling moves, and remind you that sometimes the sweetest things in life come in the most unexpected packages.
My name is Truffles, and I'm not asking for the whole world. I'm just asking for a little piece of it where I finally belong. Preferably with sunshine, a wrestling buddy, and a kitchen I'm allowed to visit after potty time.

Truffles is spay vaccinated and microchipped. Her adoption donation fee is $1150.00 and she is being fostered in Mesa, AZ. You can apply for her on our website at freedomfrenchierescue.org.
