Trudy's Story

Trudy is an approximately 1-year-old Australian Shepherd/Labrador Retriever mix with a fun-loving personality, endless enthusiasm, and a heart that's ready to bond deeply with her person. She's an intelligent, active girl who thrives when she has both physical exercise and mental enrichment, making her an excellent match for someone familiar with working breeds.

Trudy is doing wonderfully in foster care and loves having a routine. She is house trained with structure and has had zero accidents in her crate or in the home. She sleeps quietly through the night in her crate, rides exceptionally well in the car, and is highly food motivated, making training both fun and rewarding. She already knows "sit" and is working hard on learning come, touch, down, place, and off. She's eager to learn and responds well to guidance and redirection.

This sweet girl is full of personality! She's obsessed with toys and bones, loves to play, and has a confident, curious nature. Trudy is affectionate with the people she trusts and forms strong bonds with her family. She's what many would call a "Velcro dog"—she loves being close to her favorite people and is happiest when she's included in everyday life. She even gives adorable little affectionate nibbles to show her love!

Because Trudy is still young, she's continuing to learn good house manners. She's working on things like keeping all four paws on the floor, leaving counters alone, and improving her leash skills. She's strong and curious on walks but responds well to her handler and is making great progress. Like many Australian Shepherd mixes, she benefits from consistency, structure, and plenty of outlets for her energy and intelligence.

Trudy is also still decompressing after leaving the shelter, and we're continuing to learn more about her. She has shown some resource guarding around high-value items such as toys and bones, particularly with other dogs, and does best when given her own space to enjoy them. Because of this, we believe she would thrive with a confident, easygoing dog that isn't interested in competing over toys. She would also do best with older children who can understand and respect her boundaries.

Trudy is looking for an active family that enjoys walks, hiking, running, or other adventures and is committed to continuing her training. In return, you'll gain an incredibly loyal, loving companion who's always ready for the next adventure by your side.

Trudy is currently located in the Charlotte area and is ready to find her forever family.

Her adoption fee is $350.

Australian Shepherd/Labrador Retriever Mix
Approximately 1 year old
Up to date on vaccines
To be spayed (7/31)
On monthly preventatives
House trained with routine
Crate trained
Excellent in the car
Knows "sit" and eager to learn
Loves toys and bones
Needs an active home with daily exercise and mental enrichment
Best as an only dog or with the right canine companion
Best with older children

From Trudy:

Hi, I'm Trudy! If you're looking for a hiking buddy, running partner, or adventure companion, I think we'd make a pretty great team! I'm a smart girl who loves learning, playing with my toys, and being close to my favorite people. I already know how to sit, sleep quietly in my crate, and I'm working hard on learning even more. I'm still settling into my new life and figuring everything out, so I need a family that will be patient, keep me active, and help me become the very best version of myself. If you love adventures as much as I do, I can't wait to meet you!
