Trooper's Story

Trooper

Trooper's story is one of incredible resilience. As a young puppy, he was found with a broken jaw and underwent two surgeries to repair it. Due to his injuries, he's missing the front part of his lower jaw — but don't tell him that! Trooper doesn't let it slow him down one bit. He eats, drinks, plays fetch, and enjoys life just like any other dog. His joyful spirit and determination shine through in everything he does, reminding everyone who gets to know him what it means to be strong, happy, and unstoppable.

Trooper is an environmentally stable, handler-oriented, and highly biddable — the kind of dog who checks in, wants to work, and brings real enthusiasm to every session. He has strong hunt, toy, and food drive and is a little rocket with springs for feet. Athletically gifted and unbothered by tight or novel spaces. Easy to motivate, easy to reward.

Playful and clever, he entertains himself by creating his own games, often “losing” his ball in and under things just so he can get it out. He is a certified goofball — bouncy, silly, full of personality — a dog that genuinely makes you laugh.

Trooper is high-energy and would love a job to focus his talents. Due to his jaw, bitework is off the table, but he is a great prospect for dock diving, detection/nosework, agility, or just being an exceptional exercise buddy! He is started in Nosework fundamentals, with a love for the search and a decent indication foundation (nose freeze).

Training in place: Marker system (yes, no, good, uh-uh), sit, down, stand, bed with duration, heel work, positioning, body awareness (front and rear paw placement, backing straight and onto elevated surfaces, hind end pivots), and informal retrieve. Front and middle are in progress. Fully housebroken.

He can be handler sensitive and works best under fair, clear communication built on trust. He is wary of strangers, but warms up to people quickly and plays well with dogs after a proper introduction. Not recommended for homes with small or young children, but is likely cat-workable.

Trooper is anxiously waiting for his forever partner, contact CalPaws K9 Rescue to enquire about him today!
