Meet Trixie

Trixie, female, 40 lbs, 4yrs,
-must go to an adult only home as she is very clingy to her human Dad doesn't want to share him, gets along with her dog sibling, does well on walks but some dogs get her excited while other dogs she totally ignores, loves chasing squirrels, has medium level energy, she gets a long walk, sometimes jogging, in the mornings and then she plays with her housemate in the evening in the yard, doesn't play fetch so unless it's a walk or playing with our other dog she just watches the traffic out front or sleeps, she's pretty good on leash so would do well if someone wants to walk a lot for exercise, I walk her and another 50+ lb dog with a baby in a stroller and have no problems controlling them, can be left home without crating, smart and food driven, content sleeping in a ball or watching us do different activities, gets excited and greets me when I get home, has a drive for food and will steal it from her house mate or even our daughter's hand, but isn't aggressive if you take her food away, is pretty good about going to her "place" and staying quietly, but I reinforce with food, so that helps considerably, good about sticking around in the yard if the gate gets left open or she goes out to greet someone, but if a loud car or motorcycle drives by her instinct is to chase and bark so she'll bolt.
She also loves to chase squirrels in the yard, but is pretty good about not chasing on a walk, unless the squirrels are chasing each other and chattering near her, then she gets excited. She isn't real "snuggly", but wants to always lay next to me or near me, will follow me to different rooms and lay nearby, definitely has a herding/shepherd mentality that she keeps an eye on things and lets others know she doesn't approve, an incredibly loud bark for her size.

Requirements for Adoption:
Sorry but we only place our dogs in the Columbus area. For rescues/shelters across Ohio, visit: ColumbusDogConnection.com/RescuesShelters.html
Must be over the age of 24 to adopt.
Your resident pets must be spayed/neutered.

Adoption Process:
We do not have an application. Adoptions are pet-adopter driven.
To meet our pets:
Call our office at 614-471-9000 or click on the pet which you are interested in and send email. We will be happy to discuss the adoption process with you and set-up a visit at time of contact. The foster dogs are in foster homes and most of the cats reside at our office.

The adoption process includes a lease manager reference (if applicable) , a veterinarian reference, a home-visit (in-person or virtual).
If you've never owned a pet, part of our adoption process requires that you call several vet offices to compare services, prices, and availability.
Questions to ask include:
How many doctors are at your practice?
Can I request to see a specific Vet or would I be scheduled with first available?
What are your hours?
How much is: annual exam, heartworm test & tablets, an x-ray, vaccines, a non-emergency office call?
Do you recommend vaccines every year or every three years? (every 3 yrs as suggested by the AVMA)

The pooches that visit your home will not be left there at the end of the visit. We take them back home with us so your family can discuss to ensure he/she is a good fit for your home.

There is an adoption agreement and adoption fees as follows:
$300 for Adult Dogs (6yrs & younger)
$200 for Senior Dogs (7 yrs and older)
$80 for Cats

All pets are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm tested (dogs), fiv/leukemia tested (cats), & micro-chipped.
Known medical conditions are discussed at time of inquiry.
