Trixie's Story

Meet Trixie!

Trixie is a true survivor. This amazing little dog — a Chihuahua-pug mix with big eyes and an even bigger personality — was found as a stray, likely after being hit by a car. She is 5–6 years old and weighs just 8 pounds, she’s the perfect pint-sized companion.

When she was rescued, Trixie had a broken pelvis and a fractured right femur. She was quickly evaluated by an orthopedic specialist, and her femur was surgically repaired.

Fortunately, her pelvis did not require surgery and is healing well on its own with time, rest, and lots of TLC.

Trixie is currently staying with a medical foster, where she’s recovering beautifully and gaining strength every day. She’s expected to be ready for adoption in late fall!

Despite her injuries, Trixie’s spirit never wavered. She even taught herself how to get around on her front legs, holding her back legs up like a little acrobat — hence her nickname, the "Trixie Trickster." With therapy and patience, she’s beginning to use her back legs again and is making wonderful progress.

Trixie is mostly housebroken and crate trained. She’s a confident little lady who knows what she wants and isn’t shy about telling you. Some might call her bossy — we say she’s got character!
