Trip & Shay's Story

UPDATE Dec 18 Trip's medical issues resulted in his euthanasia
.
UPDATE: NOV 21 Little Trip is having a medical issue....possibly diabetes.

These little ones have been "through it" having been abandoned on a country road (starved and dehydrated) and being passed through 4 homes in less than two weeks. It's no wonder that they are not trusting of folks and I am hoping that another move won't "break them".

They are "housebroken" as long as you take them outside every 1-2 hours...if not.....then accidents are not on them. We do have dog doors here but I still need to walk out with them. They just LOVE to jump up on you. They are accustomed to being up on the furniture and they well know that their place at night is on the bed snuggled up as close as they can possible get. (I'm guessing they want to make sure I don't disappear during the night.) And they have no hesitation trying to stick those "pointy" noises in your mouth.

The vet figures they are between 6 -12 months...and they do play like puppies. (Eat, play, sleep is their motto.)They are spayed/neutered and Shay (the fawn one) has had a hernia repair. Fully vaccinated/wormed and micro-chipped AND registered with FOR THE LOVE OF PETS FOUNDATION & heartworm negative.

I will be very particular about to whom these "Littles" go. I'm looking for a home with a history of Doxies (and can provide proof), veterinarian history, pictures of the home, etc. They will need a good sized yard and free access as they love to run about side by side sniffing out squirrels, rabbits, etc. I am POSITIVE they would make a cat's life miserable. They do get along with my four other rescued dogs. AND they are barkers. Where we live it is not an issue.

My goal is to find an upscale home that is somewhat near where I live in Booneville, AR so that the transition can be smooth and I can do a "home visit". And where veterinarian bills would not be an issue...vet care is SO expensive now.

Note: Trip weighs 22# and Shay is at #`12. Their weight is perfect and needs to be maintained to try and stem off future back issues which Doxies are known for.

This has got to be their final "home"...I don't know how many more transitions they can take without ruining them. It will take quiet awhile for them to accept new people. After being with us for some weeks, they still behave at times as if my husband is a stranger while at night they are glued to his side while watching TV.

THEY ARE A BONDED PAIR and under no circumstances will they be separated.

This is not a "NEED TO PLACE" situation and they have a good home here but if I can find the right family, it would be the ideal situation for them. DOXIES can live 12-15 years and I don't think I"ll be around that long. (I am a 50 plus year rescuer.)

I do not place dogs with young children in the household. I want the dogs to be the "centerpiece", just so you know.

So, if you are truly interested, let me know. My personal email: straighttalkidaho@gmail.com (No, we do not live in Idaho any longer.)

Thank you for you time.
