Trip's Story

Meet Trip! If you're looking for a fun-loving, active companion who is always ready for an adventure, Trip might be your guy! This handsome pup has made quite an impression on shelter staff and volunteers with his playful personality, enthusiasm for toys, and zest for life.

Trip absolutely loves spending time outdoors. Whether he's exploring on a trail walk, sniffing around the yard, playing fetch, or enjoying a game of tug, he's happiest when he has something fun to do. He's an energetic dog who enjoys staying active and would likely thrive with a family that can keep both his body and mind engaged.

One thing that consistently stands out about Trip is how much he loves toys. He gets so excited during playtime that he sometimes gives playful growls while playing—a common way some dogs express excitement during a game. Volunteers describe him as sweet, friendly, and eager to interact, especially when treats or toys are involved.

Trip has shown that he's smart and motivated to learn. He responds well to treats, has practiced basic cues like sit, and enjoys working with his people. While he's affectionate on his own terms, he tends to prefer playtime and pets over lots of cuddling.

With his playful spirit, curious nature, and love for adventure, Trip is ready to find a family that will appreciate his active lifestyle and joyful personality.

At a Glance

Age: 1.5 years old
Personality: Energetic, playful, friendly, toy-loving, and adventurous
Training: Treat-motivated, knows sit, enjoys learning, and responds well to positive reinforcement
Favorite Activities: Playing fetch, tug-of-war, trail walks, exploring outdoors, sniffing adventures, and carrying his favorite toys around

SPCA of Southwest Michigan's Adoption Policy
We have same day adoptions! You are welcome to visit our shelter anytime during our open hours. When you visit, you can either look through the kennel first or go into a meet and greet room with an available animal of interest. In the meet and greet room, we will let you spend time with the animal and read off their file. If you have a dog at home, you can bring them along with you to do a dog-to-dog meet and greet. The main question we ask is if you own or rent your home. If you rent we check your pet policy. Bring your pet policy with you; as that is the quickest way for us to check. Once that clears, all you would need to do is fill out an adoption contract and pay their adoption fee. They would go home with you after that! If you are adopting a cat, you are welcome to bring your own carrier with you. We do have carriers to borrow or cardboard boxes to send home with you if you do not have one. If you are adopting a dog, you are welcome to bring your own leash and collar. We do have leashes and collars to send home with you as well. Holds We offer holds over the phone and in-person. The hold fee is $50 and is non-refundable. Holds over the phone are for 24 hours and holds in-person are for 48 hours.
