Trapper's Story

Meet Trapper!

He came from an Amish puppy mill in central Missouri and is beginning his journey into pet life. Everything about being in a home is brand new to him, and you can tell he’s feeling a bit overwhelmed as he takes it all in.

He is timid but very sweet, and he allows you to pick him up without issue. There is no growling or biting—just a gentle soul who’s still learning that the world can be kind. He does well with our five other small dogs, peacefully coexisting alongside them, even though he isn’t playing with dogs or toys just yet.

This little guy has a good appetite and, in a quiet moment of progress, he even sat with us and watched TV last night, soaking in the comfort of home life. Moments like that show just how much potential he has once he feels safe.

He will need a patient, calm home that understands he’s still learning how to “dog” and is willing to let him move at his own pace. With time, consistency, and love, this sweet boy will continue to blossom.

If you have a heart for the shy ones and the joy of watching confidence grow, he will be worth every gentle step of the journey. 💛

I forgot to take any before photos. He was severely matted. Similar to this dog: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnC6ChD0EqU which is why we had to shave him down so short. So if you can imagine a small brown mini poodle with curly hair that is what he will look like when his hair grows back out.

Basics: He is a 6 yr old male and weighs close to 5lbs. He is currently in a foster home in North Kansas City with 5 other small dogs, a 7yr old boy and foster mom and dad.

Adoption fee is $520 and includes neuter, vaccines, rabies, fecal, heartworm test, de-wormer, microchip, flea-tick and heartworm prevention

Adoption Process:
- STEP 1: Please fill out our adoption application: https://www.dayofthedogs.org/adoption-application
- One of our team members will get back to you via phone.
- Our dogs can be seen by appointment only. We do not have a facility at this time. Dogs are in foster homes or boarding. FYI we are in Kansas City, MO. Petfinder still hasn't update our location from Indiana.
- Adoption fee helps to cover transport costs, spay/neuter, initial vaccines, rabies, fecal, initial worming, and microchip.
-We do not place holds on our dogs. Please do not contact us until you are prepared to adopt. NOTE: We are very good about updating the pet's profiles once adopted. So no need to write us to ask "Is he/she still available?" If the post is up, the dog is still available.

About Us: Day of the Dogs is a 501c3 nonprofit. Since 2015 we have been dedicated to helping shelters increase live release. We coordinate 2 - 4 transports per month from TX, OK and AR to NW Indiana/Chicagoland and the Kansas City area. We do direct adoptions ourselves out of Kansas City and NW Indiana areas. We also partner with other rescues and shelters in IN, IL, KS and MO that are willing to help southern pets in need. We rely on donations to help fund our ongoing transports. Please donate if you can. Every dollar adds up and we are grateful for any help we can get: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/DayoftheDogs
