Topper

Topper is ready for the soft place to land he’s been waiting for.

Topper is a small Rat Terrier mix, estimated to be around 8 years old, who was found wandering through a neighborhood in Morristown.

He had made his way across a field and into a yard, where neighbors noticed that he simply wouldn’t get back up. At first, there was concern that something might be wrong with his legs. A Noah’s Arc volunteer was contacted, and because this little guy was small enough to scoop up and carry, Topper came with us.

It quickly became clear that he wasn’t unable to walk.

He was just old, exhausted, confused, and done wandering.

No owner ever came forward.

Topper arrived in pretty rough shape, and his past left us with more questions than answers. During his veterinary care, we discovered an old pellet lodged in his leg from a BB or pellet gun. It does not need to be removed, but it is one small reminder that we really don't know everything this sweet boy experienced before he found his way to us.

What we do know is who Topper is now.

After some time, care, and plenty of TLC, Topper has settled into life at Noah’s Arc beautifully. He is a friendly, sweet senior who is perfectly content wandering around, taking things at his own pace, and enjoying the good life.

Topper has cataracts and is also hard of hearing, possibly significantly so. Between his limited sight and hearing, the world can occasionally be a little confusing for him. He isn't asking for much — just a safe, patient home where he can learn his surroundings and know that he doesn't have to wander anymore.

He has done well around other dogs and has also been okay around cats.

At this stage of Topper’s life, we aren't looking for someone to change him. We’re looking for someone who sees an older little dog with a few miles on him and thinks, “You can spend the rest of them with me.”

Topper deserves security, comfort, kindness, and a place to call his own for however many good years he has ahead.

And judging by how much he’s enjoying life these days, we think he plans on making the most of them.

About Noah’s Arc Animal Rescue

Noah’s Arc is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue serving Morristown, Tennessee and the surrounding communities. Our animals receive veterinary care and are spayed/neutered as appropriate before adoption.

Our adoption process includes an application and veterinary reference check. We take the time to find a home that is a good fit for each individual animal and ask that potential adopters carefully consider the needs of the pet they are applying for.
