Tootsie & Izzy's Story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Well the time has come! Our super sweet seniors are ready for their forever home. These two little ones are local dogs who needed rescue after their previous owner passed away. No family members were able to take them in, and they were left behind, alone, in the home. Someone was coming in once a day to feed them but that was just about. A rescue friend heard about them and reached out to us, asking if anyone could help. How could we possibly say no? Izzy and Tootsie have been together their entire life and will remain together in their final forever home. We know that adopting two dogs is always tougher, and being two seniors will make it even harder. But we don’t mind. We always stand behind our dogs and do the right thing for them. We know that the right home is out there for them. I mean after all look at them! They are pure love. Not to mention, this is WNY! We always come through for the senior dogs!

A little bit about Tootie. Toots is a 4.12 pound miniature yorkie. She is about 12/13 years old. She is the elder of the two but def doesn’t always act that way. She is demanding and will let you know what she wants. But let’s be honest, after living alone for at least a month, we would all be a little demanding when it comes to attention. She likes to know where you in the house at all times. Tootsie has no teeth, and is missing part of her bottom jaw. Part of it has worn away due to her age. The lack of teeth and bottom jaw has not slowed down her love of food. She does eat soft food from a bowl that has a small lip on it. This makes it easier for her to pick up. Tootsie had a full work up at the vet, including bloodwork. All of which came back normal. So besides being a senior, with possible senior needs, her overall health is great. No heart or organ issues at this time. Most of her day, Tootsie is found sleeping in her bed, curled up with a blanket next to her brother. But when it comes to her foster family, Tootsie is beyond excited to see them come home. She hops up and down and barks excitedly. Her little nub of a tail wags so fast. She loves her people. Tootsie will go outside to potty. Even in the recent wind storm she went out. Tootsie will use a potty pad as well. Her foster family tends to leave one out for her overnight in case it’s needed. It goes right in front of Tootsies bed. We all about convience for our little lady. Tootsie does struggle with walking on hard wood or uncarpeted floors. She has figured out a way to manage though. No worries about her

And now of Izzy. This boy is something special. He is all about the kisses. If you don’t like doggie kisses, he is not for you. The second you hold him, Izzy starts with the kisses. He has a little more spunk than Tootsie. He is approximately 7 pounds and is 11/12 years old. Izzy tends to prance all around the house. There are days that he seems to have some issues with his back legs, nothing a pain pill won’t take care of though. Izzy was not neutered when he first arrived. Before the neuter he also had a full work up at the vet. His bloodwork came back excellent as well. Izzy also has no teeth and is missing part of his bottom jaw. But again, eating is not a problem. In fact he prefers to have some kibble mixed in his food. Since Izzy was neutered until recently, he will make when he first comes into a new home. Good news is, Izzy is very happy to wear a diaper. After the first couple weeks, Izzy does not need to wear it anymore. The marking stops and you just need to be consistent on letting him out. Izzy does have hair loss. We are not sure why, because all his blood levels were normal. Most likely due to stress, or poor nutrition. Izzy sleeps very well overnight, right next to his sister. Izzy is also leash trained and will go on short walks.

Both dogs are great in the car. They are content to lay in their bed right next to you or in the back seat. They get along well with other dogs. They tend to ignore them and stick together. They did live with small children for a short period of time and did well. We do think a quieter home with older children would be best. Also they are very vocal initially, an apartment may not be the best setting for them. If you think you have room for two very sweet and loving small seniors, make sure you apply today. You won’t be disappointed in the love they give you in return.

Both dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and tested neg. for heartworm. Their adoption fee is $350 for BOTH dogs - they will be adopted together.

Pixie Mamas Rescue's Adoption Policy
Pixie Mamas Rescue does not have a shelter or kennel facility. All dogs live in foster homes - they are part of our families! We have no time limit on how long the dogs stay in foster care - as long as it takes to find a home that suits them. Our foster homes work with the animal on basic manners, crate- and house-training, and correcting any behavioral issues that an animal may have. We require an adoption application, a veterinary reference (if applicable), and a home visit. Unfortunately, we are unable to adopt out of state (including Canada) or over 1.5 hours away from Buffalo, NY. Any travel IN our adoption area is at the discretion of the foster home. We do not ship dogs. You must be willing to come to the Buffalo NY area to complete the adoption after the home visit. The decision to place a dog in a home rests with the Foster home and Pixie Mamas Board. We only have the best interests of the animal at heart and we know best that animal's needs and temperament. Pixie Mamas Rescue reserves the right to approve or deny your application without explanation. Applications are kept on file for 1 year. You do not need to reapply within that year unless your information has changed. Please read the list below of general requirements and information for all adopting families. If you do not meet one of the requirements, please do not submit an Adoption Application. Applicants must be 25 or older Applications must be filled out completely. References are a must! Animals will not be adopted to any college students. Animals may not be adopted as a "gift" for someone unless all family members are aware of the adoption and meet the animal before the adoption takes place Dogs must not be left crated for more than 8 hours If you have a current pet, they must be up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered. This includes cats. Dogs must have annual vet exams.. If renting, verbal approval from the landlord is required to keep the dog on the premises All applicants must be willing to receive a home inspection and meet and greet prior to adoption (all family members and their pets must be present) If you have a current pet, your pet must meet the new pet before the adoption is finalized to make sure they will be compatible to live together We do not adopt small dogs to homes with an electric fence. In addition, an electric fence is not acceptable for dogs that require a fenced in yard. Adoption Fees are Non Negotiable and Non Refundable If you adopt from Pixie Mamas Rescue and you cannot keep the pet for any reason, you must return the animal to Pixie Mamas Rescue. There is no guarantee that because you apply for the dog that you are going to adopt the dog. We seriously consider all applications but if we should suggest another dog for your home, it is because we truly know these dogs and possibly there is another dog that is a better fit. We strive for as best of a match as possible. Proper placement takes into consideration many things, including size, male/female, activity level, children and ages of the children, fencing or lack of, amount of time dog will spend home alone, and many other considerations. We cannot respond to everyone personally. Please follow us on Facebook for updates. We cannot "hold" a dog for you. If you are considering adopting a dog but are going on vacation in the near future, please WAIT until you return to adopt. We do not Foster to Adopt or have trial adoptions We require a non-refundable adoption donation. Our fees start at $350 for adult dogs. "Highly Adoptables" (puppies/purebreds ,etc.) may be more. We sometimes reduce the fee for senior and special-needs dogs for the right adopters and some of our dogs receive sponsorships to help them get adopted. All the animals are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, wormed, flea-treated, and microchipped.
