*Tofu is currently at a foster home in Springfield, VA*<br/><br/>Meet Tofu!<br/><br/>Tofu is a 5-year-old Chow mix with a lot of love to give. She’s been with her current family for 4 months, and while she has her quirks, she’s an incredibly affectionate companion who’s looking for the right home to thrive in.<br/><br/>Personality & Behavior<br/>Tofu is a total lovebug! She adores cuddling and will happily lick your face or arms if you let her. She’s happiest when she’s close to her humans, often following them from room to room. If you sit down, she’ll likely lean into you, loving all the pets and hugs you can give her. Tofu is perfect for someone who spends a lot of time at home and can give her the affection she craves.<br/><br/>That said, Tofu can be reactive outdoors. She’s highly triggered by small animals like squirrels, birds, bunnies, and even deer. When she sees them, she becomes very excited and may try to chase them. On a leash, she’s strong and tends to pull, so she’ll need regular and behavioral training to improve her leash manners.<br/><br/>Indoors, Tofu listens well to commands, but when outside, she can be a little more challenging. She’s house-trained, though she sometimes needs a pee pad for overnight accidents.<br/><br/>Ideal Home<br/>Tofu needs to be the only pet in the home. She does well meeting other dogs for short periods but has shown aggression when sharing her home with another dog, especially over toys or attention. For everyone’s safety, she must be placed in a single-pet household without smaller animals.<br/><br/>Though she can be wary of new people, especially men, she will warm up to kind visitors with patience. With time, she becomes friendly and relaxed around new faces. On walks, she tends to be less reactive to people and focuses more on her surroundings.<br/><br/>Likes & Dislikes<br/>Loves: Tennis balls, treats (especially Milo’s Kitchen Chicken Meatballs, string cheese, and peanut butter), and following her human everywhere.<br/>Dislikes: Nail trims (best handled by a vet), collars worn for long periods (due to her sensitive skin).<br/>Fun fact: Tofu loves when you wag your body along with her wagging tail – she’ll wag even harder!<br/>Medical Needs<br/>As a Chow mix, Tofu is prone to “hot spots” on her skin due to her dense fur. These lesions can become irritated, so it's important to check her fur regularly and avoid keeping a collar on her too often.<br/><br/>Is Tofu the One for You?<br/>Tofu is a sweet, devoted companion who will shower you with love if you give her the attention she needs. While she has a few behavioral challenges, she’s a loving, loyal dog who’s ready to be your one and only. If you have the time and heart for Tofu, she’ll reward you with endless affection.<br/><br/>We do not recommend dogs to be left alone for over 4 hours and strongly recommend that all of our adopters look into a doggy daycare if they will be away for more than 4 hours.<br/><br/>Please keep in mind that we are unable to consider applicants that are not within a 45 minute driving distance from Springfield, Virginia at this time.<br/><br/>Adoption fee $475<br/><br/>** We typically do not adopt to homes with children under 8 years old. A home check is mandatory before adoption. We adopt to residents of Northern VA and Washington DC suburbs only. Applicants must be at least 25 years old. Thank you!<br/><br/>Prior to rescue, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization and it takes time for them to learn about life as a family pet. Common skills such as house training and leash walking may often take a little extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must.
