Toby's Story

Toby is an 81/2 year old male long-haired Dachshund mix. He weighs about 12 pounds and is neutered and his shots are current and he is microchipped. He has long, blonde, fluffy hair that will easily become matted if he isn't brushed regularly so daily brushing and professional grooming is necessary.
Toby has one habit that makes him special needs. He is unsuited for a busy life or a busy family because he can bite visitors. He belonged to an older woman who had to go into assisted living. Toby would be great company for a single female person, with few visitors and because his original owner was female. When company arrives, put him in a bedroom until they leave.
He is devoted and very loving to his person and would be very happy to just sit on someone's lap most of the day. (He is protective of his person and home so needs to be confined to another room when other people visit.) Toby is a very calm, timid and unassuming little dog. He does not like to use the dog door but is house-trained and goes to the door when he needs to go out.
Toby gets along with the other 2 female dogs in his foster home, but he might become possessive if they get too close to his foster mom. Toby is an excellent little watch dog also. When dogs are on the TV he stands in front of it and barks at them. He loves going for walks and rides well in the car.
He loves his raccoon and lamb toy and when he gets excited he picks up his toy and keeps it with him, like it is his security blanket. He would not be good with children though he is sweet and loving to his person.

Animal Friends Connection Humane Society's Adoption Policy
Filling out a Dog or Cat Adoption Application does not guarantee you an adoption. It does help us determine if the dog or cat you inquire about is suitable for your home and to suggest others not yet on our site. Dear Potential Adopters, We appreciate that you are interested in one or more of our dogs or cats for adoption. Here is a list of things that should help us answer you in a more timely manner. We reserve the right to approve or deny any application and the right not to disclose the reason. We reserve the right to visit the home where the dog or cat will be residing prior to adoption. Our cats are adopted as family pets - indoor-only; never to go outside. We believe that indoor cats are much safer and consequently happier than outdoor cats; with a few exceptions (such as ferals, or those with litter box problems and are outside savvy). All family members living in the prospective home must meet the dog or cat prior to adoption (if adopting a dog, all pets also must meet the dog). We do not allow any of our dogs to be chained, tied up, or locked in a garage. We do not allow our dogs to be crated except at bed time. Our dogs are “family” dogs. We do not allow our dogs to be “outside only”. We do not adopt any of our dogs without a securely fenced and private yard. If adopting a dog, apartments must be located downstairs with an enclosed, privately fenced patio. The fence must be 6 feet high. If you have children please read our section on children and pets on our website. Our biographies explain the needs for each dog or cat and will vary depending on the pet. These needs are based on our experience with that pet and cannot not make exceptions. Helpful hints: 1. When you apply please always use the same email address. If we need to look something up later and you used a different email we are often not able to find it. 2. PetFinders asks you to send us an inquiry. This may delay our response. Please do not send an inquiry; go directly to our website application process and submit an adoption application right away. a. Our biographies are usually very detailed, therefore sending an inquiry asking us to repeat the information causes more work and delays our response. b. We are a small non-profit and do not always have the volunteer help to answer as many inquiries as we get. c. You can just click the link near the bottom of each bio and fill out an application and we will respond. d. Dog and cat adoption application links are different. Please refer to the specific bio for the link you want. The cat adoption application is located at: https://animalfriendsconnect.org/adoption-application-cats/. The dog adoption application is located at: https://www.animalfriendsconnect.org/adoption-application-dogs. 3. Our adoption applications must be submitted by an adult 18 years of age or older. Applications submitted by minors under 18 years of age will not be accepted. If the applicant lives with parents or guardians, the parents need to be contacted and must approve the adoption.
