Toby's Story

Toby is a 2-year-old Pomeranian mix with a huge personality packed into a tiny body—and he’s been waiting far too long for someone to give him a chance.

From the moment he arrived in foster care, Toby settled in like he’d always been there. He’s smart, confident, curious, and full of spunky charm. He loves walks, toys, chew bones, and anything that keeps his mind busy. He’s also very food-motivated and eager to learn—he already has good house manners and happily sits for treats (sometimes with a little extra flair on his hind legs).

Toby can be vocal when meeting new people or experiencing new things. He’ll bark to let you know what he thinks—but if you give him a little time and some guidance, he settles in and shows his true self: loyal, affectionate, and deeply bonded to his person. He just needs someone willing to look past that initial noise and give him a fair shot.

He has done well with other dogs after proper introductions and could live with a respectful canine companion. Because of his sensitivity and energy, he’d do best with older, dog-savvy kids. Cats are unknown.

Toby is crate trained, settles well at night, and thrives with structure and consistency. Due to his vocal nature, a home (rather than an apartment) would be ideal.

At the end of the day, Toby isn’t a “plug-and-play” dog—but for the right person, he’s an incredibly rewarding one. He’s smart, funny, devoted, and full of life. All he needs is someone willing to give him the time he deserves.

If you’re looking for a loyal, entertaining, and loving companion, Toby is ready—and more than worth it.

Illinois Doberman Rescue Plus's Adoption Policy
The first step in meeting our adoptable animals is the breed/species-specific application at www.ILDobeRescue.com. We do a vet check, landlord/association verification, and home visit to ensure a permanent placement for our wonderful animals. Thank you for considering rescue! We look forward to working with you. IDR+ is a network of foster homes; therefore, we do not have a location to visit. The first step in meeting our adoptable animals is the specific application at www.ILDobeRescue.com for a Doberman, Plus dog (non-Dobe), or cat. Approved adopters are then directed to our foster homes.
