Toast (fka Poppy)'s Story

Toast (originally called Poppy when first taken into into shelter) is a dream dog. She is as loving and cuddly as can be, silly and playful, and good with humans and other dogs. Toast was found as a stray with her friend Moose (adult male dog), and currently has a sibling in her foster home, another adult female dog. She is a Velcro dog - in a good way! She loves her foster parents and just wants to be next to them whatever they’re doing. She loves chewing on bones and going on walks and is described as simply a low-maintenance ideal dog for someone in an apartment or home. She walks well on a leash with a front-clip harness. The areas Toast could improve on is occasional barking (she likes to alert her people) and occasional crying when put in her crate (it’s a toss up if she wants to go in or really does not want to).

She finished her heartworm treatment and has a few weeks of restricted activity left, but she has been doing great with it.

If you’re looking for an all around great dog - not too big a not too small, down to cuddle on the couch all day or down to go on a hike, non-picky with food, good with all humans and dogs, and simply wants a human to dote on, Toasty-toes is your girl!

NOTE: Adoption Application approval times vary, but we strive to approve applications with 72 hours. 3. Once your Application is approved, we’ll set up a meet ‘n’ greet and a home check (Post COVID-19: Home checks are performed virtually). 4. If the meet n greet goes well, then your potential new furry family member will come over for a play date. 5. Adoptions will require a three day trial visit before finalizing. 6. If all goes well and your adoption is approved, we will send you an Adoption Agreement for your review. 7. You’ll sign and return a copy of the Adoption Agreement along with the adoption fees. Your Adoption Agreement will include a customized list of the any remaining vaccinations and spay/neuter needed along with the time table in which you are required to get them. Once everything is in place, your new dog’s foster family will coordinate with you to get your new family member! * We do require all dogs in the Adopter/Foster’s home to be up to date on vaccines, current on heartworm prevention, and must be fixed. ** You must provide proof of heartworm preventative being purchased within the past 6 months to one year. We will not adopt to a home that can not provide proof their dogs takes monthly heartworm prevention. *** Young puppies that are not fully vaccinated must remain “paws off the ground” in public places (apartment complexes, dog parks, neighborhood walks) until 7 days after their final round of vaccines. **** If a dog is not fully vaccinated and they have not been fixed yet, HHDR will only allow a local adoption.
