Toast's Story
MEET TOAST!
Yep, you read that right—his name is Toast, and he’s just as warm, golden, and comforting as a fresh slice right out of the toaster!

This beautiful boy is an almost one-year-old Basenji mix with a heart as big as Texas. Like far too many dogs in Hunt County, Toast was dumped and left to survive alone, but his story changed when a sweet, animal-loving family took him in, showed him love, and gave him the chance he truly deserves. Now he’s ready to find his forever family!

• Neutered
• Up to date on all vaccinations
• Microchipped
• Heartworm negative & current on preventatives
• Crate trained and house broken
• Walks great on a leash and loves car rides

What’s Toast Like?

Toast is a Basenji, a breed famously known as the “bark-less dog.” While they may not bark like other breeds, they’re far from silent—Basenjis are known for their unique vocalizations, intelligence, and tidy nature. Toast is however, an exception—he’s:
• Smart and curious
• Clean and well-mannered
• Quiet and respectful (he won’t be the dog yapping at every squirrel!)
• Loyal and affectionate, especially with his people and dog friends

He has not made a sound since being with us at our sanctuary.

Livestock-Tested & Farm-Approved!

Toast has been tested with goats, horses, donkeys, and even large birds like ducks, geese, and turkeys—and he’s done beautifully with all of them. He’s respectful, calm, and doesn’t exhibit any prey drive. A true gentleman on the farm!

Follower, Not a Leader

Toast has a gentle, submissive personality and really thrives in the company of other dogs. He’s not one to take charge—he follows, observes, and fits in wherever he lands. Because of this, we require he go to a home with at least one other dog, regardless of size. He also can be a bit shy when he first meets people and it takes him a little longer than most dogs to learn to trust those people.

Home Requirements:
• A large backyard—this boy loves to roam, sniff, and explore
• At least one other friendly dog companion
• He would do fabulous in a home with any age child and he would be their best friend and play mate for life!
• A patient, loving family who understands intelligent, sensitive breeds
• An active or semi-active lifestyle—Toast is up for walks, playtime, or even just lounging near his people

This sweet boy is the full package—farm-friendly, quiet, dog-social, and ready to love. All he needs now is the family who will love him back for the rest of his life.

Let us know if you’d like to schedule a meet and greet! Feel free to text us at 469-952-1192.
