Toast's Story

Meet Toast 💔➡️❤️

Toast is a young puppy who came into a San Antonio shelter after surviving unimaginable abuse. He had been beaten, starved, and abandoned in a park. One of his eyes was so severely swollen that it had protruded from the socket and ultimately had to be surgically removed. Several teeth were knocked out, his jaw was broken in multiple places, and his nose was cracked and displaced to the right. Because of the damage to his jaw, Toast is unable to fully close his mouth.

I was only able to pull Toast because a good friend in Iowa stepped up and offered to foster him — a lifeline he desperately needed.

Toast is not well right now, but he will come around with good care and time.
According to his records, Toast was depressed in the shelter and lost over 6 pounds — more than 25% of his body weight — during his stay.

Despite everything he has endured, Toast still seeks out affection from volunteers. His resilience is remarkable. Once he settles into his foster home in Iowa, he’ll be seen by a veterinarian there to discuss further treatment options. And here’s the part that gives us hope: his spirit is already so much better. A ton better. ❤️

Toast will be available for adoption In Elgin around end of March/April. He will need a very special person — someone who understands that he will need to remain on soft food for the rest of his life and who can offer patience, compassion, and love.

This sweet boy has been through hell and back. Now it’s our turn to show him what kindness looks like.
