Timmy's Story

Timmy, 2yo, 66lb. neutered black lab mix is available for adoption

Background:
Timmy was found as a stray in Antioch and brought to a local shelter, where he was understandably overwhelmed and not adjusting well to the environment. The shelter reached out to GGLRR to help find him a more suitable home where he can relax, feel secure, and truly thrive.

What Timmy’s Foster Says:
Timmy is a friendly, social dog who enjoys being around both people and other dogs. He’s not shy and is happy to approach others in a cheerful, outgoing way—especially on walks, where he’s eager to say hello. He does pull strongly on leash, so he’ll need an adopter committed to working on leash manners and helping him learn to walk more calmly.

At home, Timmy is very people-oriented and loves being part of the action. He will happily follow his humans from room to room and prefers not to be left alone for long periods. Like many smart, curious dogs, he has a knack for finding food—whether it’s on the counter, table, or tucked away in cabinets—and will investigate if given the opportunity. He responds well to corrections, but he tends to “test the rules” when he thinks no one is watching.

Timmy is generally quiet, only barking occasionally when he hears unfamiliar sounds or someone approaching the home. He enjoys relaxing near his people and is content to hang out by your side. He understands boundaries like staying off furniture but may check in now and then to see if the rules still apply.

He enjoys water play and is cooperative during cleanup—he’ll even offer his front paws when it’s time to be wiped down, though he’s a bit more wiggly about his back paws. Timmy has a good amount of energy and would do best with an active adopter who can keep up with him—his natural walking pace is closer to a brisk jog.

He has been learning good habits in the yard by following the resident dog, though there have been a couple of indoor accidents, so continued consistency with housetraining will be important.

Timmy noticing another dog: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZITXqoJE1w&feature=youtu.be

Timmy taking treats: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGkalxQ1KaU&feature=youtu.be

What Timmy’s Rescue Rep Says:
When first meeting Timmy, he may appear a bit unsure, but he warms up quickly—especially when treats are involved, which he takes gently. Once comfortable, his sweet and easygoing nature really shines through. He walked calmly during his evaluation, though he may become more excitable in stimulating environments, as noted by his foster.

Timmy has done well meeting other dogs and could do nicely in a home with another friendly dog. His behavior with cats is unknown. He would do best in a home where he isn’t left alone for long stretches and where his adopters can provide the structure, training, and exercise he needs to succeed.

Because he can get excited and may jump up, a home with older children would be the best fit. Timmy does not show any signs of food guarding and has an overall gentle, relaxed demeanor. He may still be decompressing from his shelter experience, but as he settles in and gains confidence, he has all the makings of a loyal, affectionate, and well-rounded companion,

Medical:
Timmy us up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, chipped and neutered He is currently taking drops for an ear infection but is otherwise healthy.

Timmy is located in: San Francisco

If you are interested in Timmy, please email Rescue Rep Kathy at ksmillich@gmail.com In your email, please tell me about yourself and why you would be a good fit for Timmy.
