Tilly's Story

Meet Tilly! Tilly is approximately 3 years old and is a Chihuahua-type mix. Tilly was removed from a large-scale neglect/hoarding case, and will need someone very special to help her navigate life as a "pet".

Tilly, like many dogs in situations like this, is unfamiliar with most things that our other dogs might view as normal. Things like leashes, doorways, certain household noises, or even being held and touched. It's heartbreaking that things other dogs just view as 'everyday life', these dogs are completely unaware of and need lots of time to adjust.

Tilly's family should expect to be incredibly patient, and understand that she will likely need to come around on her own time. Because of the condition these dogs lived in, they were not potty trained/house broken. Giving them extremely safe containment outside is important, because they'll be easily spooked and hard to catch if they get away.

Tilly will likely do best in a home with other pets since she was used to living with many other dogs. Having a happy, friendly, outgoing doggo whose lead she can follow would probably be helpful!

What we can say for certain is that, true to being a Chihuahua, once these babies know they're safe and have bonded to a human, they are incredibly loyal and put all of their trust into you. We've already seen Tilly connect with certain people, so we know she'll bond strongly with her new owner(s) and have the best chance at a happy, normal life as a pet. We want nothing more for her!

If you think you could give a dog like Tilly a second chance in life, follow the link below. We are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been approved:
https://monroecountydogshelter.com/apply-adopt.html

Tilly is spayed and fully vaccinated. Her adoption fee is $240.
