Thumper's Story

AGE: 8 months

SEX: Female

BREED: Northern Mix

ENERGY LEVEL: High

DOG FRIENDLY: Yep!

CAT FRIENDLY?: Maybe

KID FRIENDLY?: Yep!

FOSTER IG: @thefosterden

Meet Thumper! This beautiful girl is an energetic, curious pup with a big personality and an even bigger heart. She loves to chew, play fetch and tug, sniff, explore, and investigate absolutely everything around her. She’s incredibly food motivated and will happily work for just about any treat, especially beef liver treats and sweet potato crisps. Thumper is also a total cuddle bug once she’s had a chance to burn off some energy, happily curling up on the couch for belly rubs, kisses, and snuggles. She even loves watching the ducks at the park! With her fiery personality, athletic spirit, and adventurous nature, Thumper is a little bit like Princess Merida from Brave.

Thumper is a smart, affectionate puppy who is learning more every day. She knows her basic commands and has recently added tricks like “paw” and “spin” to her repertoire. She’s house trained and does well in the home, having adjusted nicely to everyday household sounds. She can bark when someone new arrives at the door, but otherwise settles well at home. Thumper loves being with her people and tends to follow them around the house, settling independently when she’s tired. She’s also comfortable in her crate, although she may whine for a little while when first going in before settling down to nap, chew, or play. She has successfully been home alone for several hours. She’s nervous about getting into the car, but once she’s inside, she settles quickly and will either lie down or sit and watch out the window.

Thumper is friendly and affectionate with people and has done well with children. She’s enjoyed meeting guests when introduced thoughtfully and is curious about cats. She may do well with a confident, dog-savvy cat with slow, thoughtful introductions. Her biggest area for continued training is her leash skills and reactivity. She can be reactive toward dog, squirrels, and people, and may try to chase scooters and bicycles. Loud traffic and busy streets can also make her nervous, so she would do best in a quieter neighbourhood with a family who can provide plenty of exercise, enrichment, and continued positive training. Thumper is a loving, smart, high-energy girl who will thrive with a family ready to help her channel her enthusiasm while giving her plenty of cuddles along the way!

Think you might be the right fit to provide a loving home for Thumper? New Collar Collective's Adoption Policy
ADOPTION PROCESS 1. Complete and submit an adoption application. All applications will be screened, and applicants will receive an email response letting you know whether your application has been approved to move to the next step in our process or not. If you have not received a response from us, first check your spam/junk folder before sending us an email. 2. You will be asked to submit two personal references, and a vet reference where applicable, as part of our process. Please make sure to let them know that they may be contacted by one of our volunteers. Veterinarian clinics will require your permission to share any information with our team. 3. A phone interview will be scheduled with one of our adoption coordinators via email or phone. 4. Your adoption coordinator will connect with one of our volunteers to schedule a home visit. Home visits will be completed virtually or in-person depending on available resources. If a virtual home visit is completed and there are any outstanding questions or concerns, New Collar Collective reserves the right to do a follow up (in person) home visit. Volunteers conducting virtual home visits will be required to direct the home visit so we are assured they have seen all areas of the home. Volunteers conducting in-person home visits will be encouraged to bring a friend along for their safety. In this case, you will be notified in advance. 5. A meet & greet will be coordinated with the animal’s foster. All members of the household (including dogs) will be required to attend the meet and greet. 6. Post meet & greet If there are no further questions or concerns, applicants will contact their adoption’s coordinator to let them know if they would like to move forward with the adoption. Adopters will be contacted to provide all contract requirements. ADOPTION POLICIES The policies outlined below are guidelines and there may be instances where an exception can be made upon the agreement of the adoption management/Board of Directors. Periodically, New Collar Collective will revisit these guidance policies to ensure they still meet the intended needs of the rescue. We do not adopt to applicants who live outside of our adoption radius. We do not ship dogs. Adopters are responsible for picking up their newly adopted pet. All pets in your household must be spayed and neutered. All pets in your household must be up to date with mandatory vaccinations. We do not allow applicants to test out a cat/dog before adoption. We expect that applicants will take the necessary time to meet with the dog or cat, talk with the foster, and ask lots of questions. Our rescues have already been through so much, we feel it is in their best interest that trials do not occur. *Exception for Foster-to-Adopt applicants All members of the household must be present during the Home Visit and the Meet and Greet. We do not adopt to families with children under the age of 4. The full adoption fee is due at the time of adoption. We do not offer payment plans.
