THOR's Story

Thor "Thornado" — Hope on Four Enormous Paws

Thor has a lot of nicknames, and every single one of them is earned. At our sanctuary, he's more than a dog — he's a blessing, a source of constant smiles, and honestly, he's hope itself. Thor is the perfect example of why we do this work.

Thor's start in life was brutal. His parents, two Great Danes, were kept attached to a huge chain, supposedly to "guard the house," while being left malnourished, bones showing, baking in the sun with no relief. No one knows how many litters his mom endured before neighbors finally reached out to us for help. We rescued all six of them — mom, dad, and four puppies. Mom and dad are now safe in a foster home, healing.

Out of the four puppies, Thor was the one who suffered the most. His immune system essentially shut down. His little body swelled, his skin began breaking down — it was touch and go. It has taken almost four months of care, patience, and love to bring him back, little by little. And today, we get to celebrate: Thor is a thriving, happy boy.

He's basically a pony at this point — a big, beautiful tornado of a dog who has absolutely no idea how large he actually is. He's an amazing soul wrapped in an enormous body, and he is finally, truly ready.

It's time for Thor to start living la dulce vida. He is so deeply loved here, and as much as it will be hard to say goodbye, he deserves more than we can give him at the sanctuary — he deserves a real bed, a real family, and a real home to call his own for the rest of his life.

If you have the space and the heart for a gentle giant who fought this hard to be here, Thor is ready to give you everything he's got.

Location: San Diego, CA
Email: adoptions@dulcevidarescue.org
Adoption Application: https://form.jotform.com/251455753402151
