Theodore (Jackson)'s Story
THIS DOG IS CURRENTLY LOCATED IN TEXAS. OUR ADOPTION DONATION IS $475 AND INCLUDES TRANSPORT. PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO AS IT INCLUDES INFORMATION AS TO OUR SCREENING PROCESS.

***Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time***

We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog.

Theodore, 7 months (estimated DOB January 2026), neutered male, Chihuahua mix (we think several different breeds), weighs 22 pounds and will continue to grow we think by a little bit. He's in a foster home in Houston, Texas and can transport once an adopter has completed our process.

Theo's name at the shelter was Jackson, but we thought Theo was a better fit. He was part of a group of 80 dogs confiscated from a house and brought to the county shelter in Houston.

Theodore, affectionately known as Theo, is a goofy, playful, affectionate boy with a big personality and even bigger zoomies! This handsome pup loves to race around the yard, chase his dog friends, wrestle, play tug-of-war, and generally have as much fun as possible.

Theo is a high-energy puppy when he's playing, but he has a surprisingly good off-switch for his age. Once he's had a chance to burn off some energy, he's happy to settle down and relax. He loves his people and his canine friends and would likely do best with another playful, appropriately matched dog who can keep up with him and respect his size.

Theo can be a little nervous when meeting new dogs and people, but he is not aggressive. He simply needs some time to feel comfortable and learn that new experiences are safe. Once he settles in, his silly and affectionate personality comes shining through. He loves playing with his humans and may gently bat at you or nibble your fingertips to let you know it's time to have some fun!

Theo has done well with dogs up to about 40 pounds and seems to bond quickly and deeply with other dogs. He would likely thrive with a confident canine companion who enjoys an active playmate. He has also been around children over five, including children with special needs, and has done well. With younger children, supervision and appropriate introductions would be important because Theo is still learning his manners and can be exuberant.

Theo has improved over time with the cats in the home. He does want to try to play/chase so he would need a home experienced with acclimating dogs and cats. A home that is able and willing to separate during this acclimation period.

Theo is also still learning some important puppy skills. He is working on potty training and can hold it through the night, but he still needs frequent opportunities to go outside during the day. He's learning that outside is the place to potty and is making progress with consistency and routine.

Crate training is another area where Theo needs patience and continued work. He currently finds the kennel difficult and may cry when confined, although he's been making progress with gradual exposure and positive associations. He does much better in a playpen, although he'll need secure barriers because this determined little explorer is always looking for his next adventure!

Theo is curious, independent, playful, silly, and affectionate. He loves exploring on his own and will occasionally leave the group to investigate something interesting. He also absolutely loves toys. If you have a favorite stuffed animal or a pair of Crocs, you may want to keep them out of reach! He has been known to proudly trot away with a shoe, although he has never actually destroyed one.

Theo is still learning to walk on a leash, but he does not try to escape because of fear or anxiety. He's simply an adventurous puppy who wants to explore the world. Secure fencing and supervision will be important because Theo is clever and determined when he decides he wants to go somewhere.

Theo has shown some mild resource-guarding tendencies around food with other pets, so he should be fed separately and monitored around high-value items. He has no issues with people around food and will allow his humans to take things from him.

Despite everything he's still learning, Theo is an incredibly sweet boy. He is friendly, affectionate, playful, and eager to experience life. He has so much potential and is going to make an amazing companion for someone willing to put in the time and consistency now to help him become the wonderful adult dog he's meant to be.

Theo's Ideal Home

Theo would do best with an adopter who understands that puppies are a work in progress and is committed to continuing his crate training, potty training, socialization, leash skills, and basic manners.

An active family would be a great match, but Theo doesn't necessarily need someone running marathons with him. He'll be happiest with a family that provides regular exercise, play, training, and mental stimulation while also teaching him how to settle.

A canine companion would likely be a wonderful addition to Theo's life. He bonds strongly with other dogs and loves having a friend to play with.

Theo may need a little patience, but he's going to give his family so much in return. He's a goofy, loving, adventurous puppy who is ready to find someone willing to help him learn, grow, and become the best version of himself.

Please note our process starts with an application. If we think you might be a good fit, we will reach out to coordinate a phone interview. This is followed by a video call with the foster home. Virtual home visit, personal and vet reference checks are required to complete the process. Transport is included in our adoption donation.

***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. ***

Interested in applying to adopt?
