Theo's Story
** If you are interested in adopting Theo, please fill out our adoption application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ **

Meet Theo! Theo is a 2-year-old, 9-pound Chihuahua / Pug mix. This little guy is as adorable as they come — his slightly crossed eyes give him the most endearing, one-of-a-kind expression that melts your heart!

Theo arrived to Colorado on November 5th after being rescued from a shelter in New Mexico, where he ended up after being found as a stray. With all the change and uncertainty he’s experienced, from the shelter environment to the long transport to Colorado, Theo was understandably a bit scared at first. This is truly the strangest and scariest time in his life. But, once we went into a safe warm foster home, his sweet personality came right out after a day or 2! We would expect Theo to be a bit shy when he gets adopted and moves into a new home again, but just give him a day and he will show you how sweet he is! His foster has written up a detailed bio for his prospective adopters:

From Theo's foster:
* * * *
"Theo is one of the sweetest, goofiest little guys you’ll ever meet. He is full of silly and sweet energy and has lots of love to give, once he is comfortably with you. This silly little dog takes a minute to warm up, but once he is trusting of his environment and the people around him he will want to be right next to you all the time!

He is incredibly curious and I always joke he’s more like a cat than a dog. Not only does he love to explore every corner of my home (under couches, the shelves of a bookcase and even the bathtub), but he also loves jumping up on surfaces to get a new perspective (the dining room chairs, on top of his crate, and the windowsills).
He is much more curious than mischievous, but be sure to puppy proof as he is adventurous and will want to investigate the space.

Theo is SO cuddly. He wants nothing more than to curl up in your lap and take a nap. While he is loving and cuddly he is also very playful and will bring endless laughter to whatever home he goes to. He loves being outside and going on walks. From my experience, he took a few days to warm up to me before he would let me put his harness on. What worked best for me was to put his harness/leash on when we were curled up on the couch together. This was much easier since any overhead reaching can spook him.
Now, I did not walk him until he was with me for 3 days. His adopter should make sure to give him at least 3 or 4 days to fully warm up before taking him out on walks, because until he is 100% comfortable with you, he can spook easily and could be a flight risk. (Example; an ambulance driving by with sirens on will spook him.)

He does great with other dogs (I have 6) so would do well in a home with another dog.

The first day with Theo he was very very scared of me and did not want me to touch him. But he warmed up fast and by the 2nd day he would sit in my lap requesting pets! He sleeps in bed with me and I think this helped him and I bond a lot and he learned he was safe.
Patience and time are necessary for him to warm up, but soon he will be requesting love and he will run towards you when you grab the leash. Theo has been the sweetest dog to foster and will make the most loving, loyal, and playful companion for his next home."
* * * *

Theo does well with other dogs, and we think that going to an adoptive home with another confident dog will help Theo warm up a lot faster!

After everything he’s been through, Theo is ready for a fresh start and a family who will cherish him forever.

We'd like to place Theo in a home where he'll get consistent stimulation, exercise and love. A (virtual or in-person) positive reinforcement group training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence for a young guy whose self-esteem will fly high while he masters his skills. Training is so important in the future behaviors of every dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't make this loving choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both in-person and virtual positive reinforcement / force- free trainers in your area.

Theo has been fully vetted, and he is in great health and up to date on his vaccines. He is neutered as well.

Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.
Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year.

If you are interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our adoption application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ .
