Theo's Story

Meet Theo: Tiny Tippy-Toes, Big Cozy Energy

Age: 5 years
Weight: 14 lbs
Breed: Mini Poodle
Fostered in: Madison, WI
Activity level: Low
Shedding: Approximately zero hairs. None. Zilch. Your black pants are safe.

Theo is a 14-pound miniature poodle whose entire life philosophy can basically be summed up as: Find the softest place in the house. Crawl inside it. Observe the humans. Repeat.

We believe Theo may have come from a puppy mill type situation, so some parts of normal dog life are still brand new to him. Leashes? Suspicious. Stairs? A developing skill set. Loud noises? Absolutely unnecessary, thank you very much. But give this little guy a calm home, a soft blanket, and a little patience, and you’ll start seeing the ridiculously sweet dog hiding underneath the nerves.

PROFESSIONAL CUDDLE-PUDDLE INSPECTOR

Theo has an important daily responsibility: If another dog lies down on a dog bed, Theo must investigate. Is there room? Is it cozy? Could this situation be improved by adding one miniature poodle?

The answer is almost always yes.

He loves other dogs of all sizes and especially enjoys playing with smaller dogs. At the same time, Theo appreciates a little personal space now and then. Think of him as social but not clingy, unless you have a particularly good blanket. Then negotiations may begin.

HOBBY: SPELUNKING

Some dogs fetch. Some dogs hike. Theo prefers spelunking. Under blankets. Behind pillows. Inside cozy little cave-like spaces where he can curl up and quietly monitor household operations. At night, he’ll happily sleep in a dog bed in your room, but if there’s an opportunity to burrow underneath the covers in the human bed? Theo would like you to understand that he is willing to make that sacrifice.

Bonus: He sleeps in if you sleep in. This is an extremely valuable skill and should not be overlooked.

THE LADIES’ MAN

Theo is especially comfortable with women. Men? They’re...acceptable. He can coexist with them perfectly well, but if Theo walks into a room containing one man and one woman, he has already selected his person. Sorry, gentlemen.

THEO’S IDEAL HOME

Theo would thrive in a quiet, relatively predictable household where he can continue building confidence at his own pace.

Because sudden loud noises make him nervous, young children would be overwhelming for him. A home without kids would be ideal, although respectful older children, probably 10+, could be a good fit.

He’s housebroken, crate trained, rarely barks, rides beautifully in the car, likes being held, and even handled grooming like a champ. Basically, underneath the shy exterior is a very civilized little dude.

A QUICK WORD ABOUT BOUNDARIES

Theo is sweet, but he does believe in personal space. If another dog gets directly in his face while he’s enjoying a treat, he may give a warning growl. And if Theo has secured premium lap real estate, he may politely inform another dog that this seat is currently occupied. He has not shown aggression. He communicates appropriately, and honestly, we respect a guy who knows how to establish reasonable workplace boundaries.

THE IMPORTANT STUFF

Theo is:

Housebroken
Crate trained
Low energy
Low barking
Great with dogs
Excellent car passenger
Professional snuggler
Champion blanket burrower
Non-shedding
Ridiculously soft

He has no known health concerns and is scheduled for a dental on October 13.

His signature color is Brewers blue, his walk-out song is “Mr. Blue Sky” by Electric Light Orchestra, and his preferred autumn wardrobe is a cozy multicolored sweater.

His favorite season? Summer. Because Theo believes sunshine is lovely, but the smell of hot dogs coming off the grill is art.

THEO IS LOOKING FOR HIS SOFT PLACE TO LAND

Theo may not be the dog who charges through the front door ready to conquer the world. He’s quieter than that. He watches. He learns. He takes tiny tippy-toed steps forward. And when he decides you’re safe, he’ll curl up beside you, or underneath your blanket, and become part of your world.

For a dog who may have spent the first part of his life without much choice about where he belonged, we think Theo deserves something wonderfully simple now:

A peaceful home.
A patient human.
A soft bed.
And a permanent spot in the cuddle puddle.

Albert's Dog Lounge is a specialty rescue focusing primarily on senior and special needs dogs.

Our process includes an approved application, reference checks, a homevisit, and then a meet and greet with the dog.
