Themis's Story
Themis is a four-month-old Anatolian Shepherd mix. She is a gentle, affectionate young dog who has come a long way and continues to blossom with time, patience, and love. She currently lives peacefully with two senior large-breed dogs and has had extensive exposure to livestock and wildlife, taking it all in with curiosity and care. She walks great on leash (may shy away from strange objects), is mostly housetrained, and has not been asked to be kenneled. While she can be a bit vocal and has a higher energy level, Themis balances that with a deep desire to be close to her people and soak up affection.

Themis’ biggest challenge has been confidence. In new environments, she may initially look for a safe place or want to stick close to her person, and unfamiliar objects or situations can make her hesitate. That said, she has made remarkable progress—she opens up noticeably once she’s given time to settle and feel secure. With consistency and reassurance, her true personality shines through: playful, loving, and eager to connect. Her foster describes her as a true comeback story who has grown far less shy and much more engaged with the world around her.

Because of her sensitive nature, Themis would likely thrive in a quieter, predictable home, possibly with calm, older dogs, or respectful kids. Here her confidence can continue to grow at her own pace. She is expected to be smaller than some of her siblings (not tiny, but not a 100+ lb dog). Once Themis feels at home, she becomes an underdog with a mission: to love and be loved, wholeheartedly.

Thank you for considering an OTAT-WTX rescue! All pets are living in foster homes, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on core vaccines.

If you are interested in adopting, or for more information, please visit our website: https://otatwtx.org/how-to-adopt
