Thelma's Story
Thelma is the younger of our two little Bagel girls (Bassett/Beagle X). We absolutely feel she has been used as a hunting dog and kept in an outdoor pen previously. She is a small girl, but very solid and strong. She is very sweet and loves to be on the couch with you receiving pets and belly rubs. However, if left outside alone, she absolutely reverts into being a rabbit hound and her nose is to the ground and she is off. She will definitely get out of a back yard if she is left unattended. However, if you walk into the back yard with her and call her back in, she is completely happy to comply. She is making the transition from working bagel to companion pet and seems to be liking it. Thelma and Louise came to the rescue as they had been posted on a Lost and Found page for a rural Kentucky community. We watched the post for over a week and knew these girls did not need to be exposed to this incredible heat and one of our volunteers was able to bring them in and start the transition process. Due to their background we do not recommend them with small animals. They do love other dogs and have been great with people of all ages. They recently had what may been their first in-cab truck ride. They did well, but will help you drive if not restrained. We do think they need to be split up to help keep them from falling back into the only life they have known thus far.
