She will just melt when you pet her. She's looking for a home where she can blossom. Someone that will be patient with her, as she has never lived in a home or walked on a leash. She must have another dog in the home to act as a mentor. Yes, she will come out of her shell over time. How long? I'm sure months. With that said, she won't be a dog to bring to cafe's or children's sporting events. Thelma is a dog that will love you forever.

We had a post on facebook and the comments were that she was sad. Thelma is not sad at all. She just has that look. I think Cockers have that look in general. She is a beautiful girl.

Thelma will need a mentor dog in the home to teach her the ropes and a fenced in yard to keep her safe.

Thelma is in a foster home. Here is what her foster family says about her:
She’s choosing to be in the same room as us, but does not like for people to reach towards or pet her, and if it is dark out every thing is spookier and then also doesn’t like people to look at or talk to her.

BUT the girl loves food, loves our open concept house (perfect for a scared dog), and does so well with our lab (who will purposely go through the doggie door really slow so her back end will hold the flap up for Thelma). If our lab is slacking on helping Thelma, then our cocker who looks similar to Thelma (I call them the twins) will help. Thelma LOVES to ride in my minivan and has gotten very good at jumping into it. If I need to catch her for anything (like cleaning those cocker ears- she has the stereotypical cocker ears), I use the van. I get them all in there, open the garage door and drive around the block—I don’t want to lie to them about a ride!

We are still working on walking on a leash. She went to see the same groomer my own dogs see. She was scared, but let her groom her. My lab went along for moral support, but was not happy she didn’t get to get her nails done and wouldn’t look at me the rest of the day.

Thelma will sometimes sleep with me, but prefers that I don’t move, don’t hog the bed, and may not make any sudden moves or touch her. I do my best. She can really fly into the air if she hears/thinks she hears something.

All in all not much has changed with Thelma, but her blooming personality is a lot of fun. She will howl If the kids aren’t up when she thinks they should be. She watches whenever anyone is in the kitchen. If you’re eating and she thinks she should have some of your food, she’ll bark at you the whole time.

I love when the scared dogs start to come into their personalities. It’s like babies developing their personalities: She picked up a toy the other day. She immediately dropped it, but she picked it up! She is really itchy (probably dry winter skin) and snores loud enough to wake the dead-she’s a great white noise machine!

So not much new, but we sure love her! The rest will come with continued patience.

Please read our Breeder Release article on our Resources page prior to applying.

ADOPTION FEE: $550

To adopt the FIRST STEP is to complete an APPLICATION.

Adopters must be 24 years of age. We can not adopt to families with children under the age of six. We also only adopt in WI, IL, and parts of MN. Most of our dogs are strays, so the breed is our best guess.
WI License #270548.

Check out Fluffy Dog Wellness on our Home Page.
