Thanos's Story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. So much of this handsome boy’s background is unknown. What we do know is that Thanos is a sweet gentle young boxer boy that has great potential as a family dog as he matures. He knows some commands like ‘sit’ and ‘wait’, although the wait doesn’t last very long. We are working on that. He knows the words ‘go potty’ and will head right to the door to go outside. But he doesn’t know to get your attention or give signals right now to let him outside. So if you not watching him after he eats, naps, and sleeps through the night he will have an accident inside. This is compounded by the medications he is on for heart worm treatment. I think he could be trained to ring bells on a door very easily or to a dog door to go back and forth himself. Thanos is very smart and likes to learn new things to please his human. He responds to his name and comes to you when you call him but will need better recall for crazier times. The unknowns are how he will do with small yappy dogs. Thanos has a prey drive for rabbits and squirrels and gets overwhelmed and overstimulated easily. He ignores the large dogs in the neighborhood but does get fixated on the small dog next door. Thanos takes a leash calmly and will sit when you want to put him on leash. He needs additional leash training while on a walk. Everything is so new to him and he is so curious about his surroundings that he will cross back and forth and all around your legs and feet and could be a trip hazard until his human helps him figure out his place and space. He really is not a puller at this time and a treat in your hand keeps him very attentive. Thanos is not much of a jumper. He will put his paws on your legs when you sit down in hopes of being invited up, but he does not do full body jumps up on people. Thanos also does not know what toys are but it will be so much fun to teach him to play and fetch! All in all, Thanos is still a puppy acting younger than 2 years based on his knowledge of the outside world and is eager to have you teach him everything he needs to know to be the perfect family companion.
