Terry's Story

I am again looking for my new family. I am a senior and just want a soft, gentle, and calm place for me and Dexter. I was surrendered by my first family in 2017. I was then adopted by a family that ran a child care facility in the home. This was very stressful for both me and Dexter. Then they got a puppy which added more stress.

I really need a peaceful and calm environment. When I get overwhelmed, I have nipped at people who don't seem to understand what I need. I have not bit anyone since I came to ACR and my new foster home. That family surrendered me and Dexter in March 2026.

I am 14 and weigh about 8#. I have a mild heart condition that will need ongoing medication which slows the progression. As long as I take that, I feel good and can be more active than you would expect from a gentleman my age. I am beginning to play a little with other dogs and I like to be able to go in and out of the house as I choose. Although I'm a bit of an independent sort, I am liking some lap time and I really like being held.

I want to have my crate open so I can go inside when I need to be in my own space. I was potty trained and then my second fosters didn't help me continue with that. So I am learning that all over again. I take treats gently and wait my turn. I sleep through the night and prefer to sleep & eat in my crate. I bark when someone new enters the home; but if you hold me to reassure me or put me in another room for a little bit, then I feel safer and stop barking.

I know there is a family somewhere that will understand me and be willing to accept a senior in the home. I would like it if Dexter could join us. Are you willing to provide a soft place to land the rest of our years?
