Meet Teeter, the ultimate family dog! Teeter came from the Duplin County shelter in Kenansville, NC, where he was initially shy and a bit fearful. He was flown to NJ with two other dogs, and shortly after settling into his foster home he completely came out of his shell. He is relishing life in a home, where he plays exuberantly with his foster dog sister, enjoys frequent walks around the neighborhood and happily greets everyone he meets.<br/><br/><ul><li>Teeter is currently being housebroken and crate trained and is learning quickly. He loves to sleep in his crate at night and is able tohold it all night with just one potty break at the five-hour mark. As he gets older and grows a bit more he'll be able to extend the time in the crate at night gradually (six hours when he hits 6 months old, seven hours at 7 months old, etc.).</li></ul>Teeter loves his walks but has not been formally leash trained yet, so he can be easily distracted by all of the new sights and sounds he is experiencing. He is friendly to all dogs, kids and adults and shows no aggression. When it comes to toys, Teeter is in the chewing stage and enjoys rope toys, puppy teething toys and squeakers. When meeting new people, Teeter greets all visitors with a happy wag and a kiss. He is very approachable, showing no fear--just pure love.<br/><br/>Teeter has a real thirst for learning and is eager to master new skills. He learned "sit" in three brief training sessions, answers to his name and is working on other basics like "leave it." He's still very much a puppy, trying to put everything in his mouth, etc., so he will need patient owners, but he's the type of dog who would excel in group obedience classes, where he could simultaneously socialize and impress everyone with his intelligence. He walks with an adorable swagger and treats every walk as a treasured opportunity to meet new people and dogs, and to experience all nature has to offer. When the neighborhood kids kneel down to pet him, he responds with a big sloppy kiss. Teeter loves to wrestle vigorously, but he does so gently, making him the ideal companion for children of all ages. He could live happily with another dog, though he would also do well as an only pet. On a lazy Sunday afternoon at home with the family, you will find Teeter right there with you, wrestling with you and/or a sibling dog. If he's awake, he wants to be in the middle of the action!<br/><br/>Teeter <span style="font-weight: 400;">is not yet neutered, but is UTD on vaccinations. The good news is that because we are a licensed, registered 501(c)3 rescue with the state of NJ, he is eligible to be neutered for just $20 with proof of adoption (adoption contract) through the NJ Low Cost Spay/Neuter Grant Program. It's super-easy, just present our contract at a participating vet and make the neuter appt! Our local vet participates, and you may just find yours does too!</span><br/><br/>An additional note from his foster: "Teeter is very much still learning, so he'll need a lot of patience and to be given boundaries in the house for a while, until he's solidly past the puppy chewing phase.
