Teddy & Bruno's Story
Teddy & Bruno are a very bonded pair of 12 yr old miniature poodles – they’ve been together since birth. They were previously adopted, but were returned when their adopter became ill and moved to assisted housing, leaving the dogs behind in her home with people coming only once a day to feed them. When we got them back, their coat was so matted tight against their skin that clippers wouldn’t even work – they had to be manually cut, which took quite a while. Their vet work has been done and the pair is now looking for a new home.
Teddy & Bruno love attention – if you are sitting in a chair, you can expect one or both of them in your lap, which is a good opportunity for you to brush/groom them. If you aren’t available, they often lay on furniture together. They haven’t had much experience with leash walking, but have been good with short distances. They know their names, and come when called. Teddy & Bruno are both shy around men. Might bark when unfamiliar people enter the home, but quickly become more welcoming and friendly. Have been fine with respectful, dog experienced children 10 yr and up, but aren’t very playful – Teddy might fetch a small ball, but Bruno has no interest in playing (he is the more independent of the two). Housebroken – don’t signal when they need to go out, so you need to take them out every 4-6 hrs. The are crated when left, and never mess inside it. At night, they both sleep on dog beds or furniture (both can get on & off the loveseat just fine). If they live with other dogs, they will join in when the others bark when new people come over, but don’t bark much if they are alone. Ride quietly in the car and don’t get carsick. They only have 3 steps to navigate when going in/out of the house – should be fine with a full set of steps but haven’t been tested. A secure fenced yard would be ideal because the dogs don't have much leash experience; even then, they should NOT be left outside alone because Bruno could easily be carried off by a large bird of prey. Teddy has only one tooth left in his mouth, and it looks good. His tongue hangs out the right side of his mouth some of the time – mostly when he is relaxed or sleeping. Bruno has had all of his teeth removed – his tongue mostly remains in his mouth. Because they can’t chew dry kibble, their food will need to be soaked & softened (the foster added a little canned food, too). Because of the other dogs in the home, Teddy & Bruno are crated together in a large open wire kennel to eat their meals. They will need grooming every 6-8 weeks, and brushed/combed at least twice a week - be sure you can afford this ongoing expense.
The dogs are current on distemper and rabies vaccinations. The 4DX on both are negative. Teddy’s fecal test was negative; Bruno had roundworm and was treated with Drontal. Teddy weighs 14# 7oz; Bruno is 10# 8 oz. Bruno has a grade 3/6 heart murmur – no treatment needed at this time. Both dogs are neutered and microchipped. The adoption fee for the pair (and they are NOT to be separated anytime in the future) is $350. Call 651-771-5662 if you have any questions or would like to meet them.
