Tea Adopted’s FAQs

What is Collie & Sheltie Rescue of Middle TN’s adoption process?

Due to lack of manpower and solely being supported by volunteers, we cannot pick up the phone and call each and every person that inquiries about one of our rescues. WE ARE NOT A FACILITY. All of our rescues are fostered by volunteers in their private dwellings, therefore all interested parties must be pre-approved for adoption to meet one of our said rescues. You must be 21 yrs of age to adopt living in a stable environment *FENCED YARDS ARE REQUIRED* ~ NO exceptions unless the said rescue is a fence climber and cannot be contained. We DO NOT support the use of underground fencing as they are a false sense of security and do not keep predators out! We do not adopt to families with children under the age of 8 yrs old unless we have history on the said rescue having been raised or lived with children without incident as we have no foster homes that can evaluate these dogs co-existng with younger children/toddlers on a daily basis. It is the sole responsibility of the potential adopter to travel here to meet/greet the said rescue. You must get pre-approved for adoption prior to the Meet & Greet. This process allows you to adopt at the same time of the Meet & Greet so that only one trip has to be made. We DO NOT ship/transport to new furever homes! ADOPTING A FRIEND: Every dog adopted out by CSRMTN must be intended for a house dog with outdoor privileges which requires a fenced yard - NO exceptions unless we are dealing with a known fence climber! Collies and Shelties long to be with their companion owner/s/family. They tend to get bored very quickly when cast outside to stay. Exceptions are at the sole discretion of CSRMTN and primarily IF the dog is a known fence climber/jumper/escape artist. We do not consider electronic fence an acceptable barrier. Collies and Shelties necks have to be shaved in order for a shock collar to penetrate their heavy coats and if t-storm scared, they will often run through it deliberately to run away, join (or chase) another dog, a cat or a kid on a bike, and then they can't get back in. In fact, an electronic fence gives an entirely unwarranted sense of security and cannot keep predators from entering the yard. An adoption application will be sent upon receipt of interest in learning about a particular rescue......fenced yard, vet reference and photos/videos of the home are required. We will continue to practice home visits if absolutely necessary but with the threat of Covid-19 we try to refrain from that. We will then schedule a phone interview upon receipt of the application. Adoption fee does apply to defray discounted vet costs and vary upon age....seniors may be discounted under the right circumstances: 0-2 yrs $475 3 yrs-8 yrs $450 9 yrs and older $400 Mixed breeds $375 Our adoption fees help to carry us from one dog to the next as not all rescues come in healthy, nor young. All rescues are fully vetted (treated for heartworms where applicable), placed on heartworm prevention, flea and tick control and microchipped. *SORRY - we do not ship/transport dogs* We only adopt out of state on a case-by-case basis (repeat clients are an exception). It is your responsibility to travel here to meet/adopt the said rescue, and you must be 'approved' for adoption prior to a meet & greet being scheduled.. GETTING APPROVED FOR ADOPTION ~ visitors are welcomed for a meet & greet in the foster home once adoption application is approved for the dog of interest. Please email us regarding the dog who interests you. All applicants must be 21 years of age or older. You'll be sent our nonbinding application and when you submit it, we will telephone you upon receipt. We do ask for photos of your homestead at the time you send in your application (these include photos of the front and back of your home, front and back yards, all fencing and gates, main living area). A vet reference is then completed, then a home visit. Any pets already in your family must be spayed/neutered, vaccines up-to-date and practice heartworm/flea/tick prevention before an application can be approved. All dogs listed for adoption have been spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated, examined and treated as necessary for parasites and/or other health issues. When you adopt, you'll be given all health records for your dog since he/she has been within our care. Submitting an application does not obligate you to adopt. CSRMTN reserves the right to refuse any applicants. AGAIN, WE ARE NOT A SHELTER OR FACILITY.....all of our rescues are in private home foster care. You MUST get pre-approved and schedule an appt. in order to meet any of our rescues.
