Tater Tot's Story

Tater Tot

10.5 years old | 20 lbs | Cockapoo mix

Tater Tot is a charming senior gentleman looking for his next full-time belly rub provider. This sweet, potato-shaped pup (true to his name!) was surrendered to Manhattan ACC when his owner could no longer care for him, and he's been winning hearts ever since.

Tater Tot is available foster-to-adopt as he's ready for his forever home but does have an upcoming medical appointment on January 29th in the Lower East Side of NYC for removal of growths in his ears and a much-needed dental. Waggytail will be covering the cost of this surgery, but if Tater Tot is adopted before then, all ongoing and future medical care will be the responsibility of the adopter. Applicants must be willing and able to commit to getting him to and from this appointment.

Possibly related to his ear growths, Tater Tot is either hard of hearing... or selectively tuned out when it suits him. At a hefty 20 pounds, he's currently carrying a little extra love and would ideally slim down to around 15–16 pounds with gentle walks and mindful treats.

True to his senior status, Tater Tot is fairly low-key and enjoys rotating between naps, snacks, and belly rub sessions. He does beautifully home alone while his foster mom is at work and has mastered the art of burrowing into pillow piles on the bed. He's highly food-motivated (except for blueberries—those are a hard no).

Tater Tot lives wonderfully with the resident senior dog in his foster home, but he does need support and continued training when it comes to on-leash greetings with other dogs. Off leash and at home, he's much more relaxed. He would do best in a cat-free household.

He is house-trained and prefers to do all of his business outdoors, though the recent cold weather has led to a few understandable indoor “oops” moments—who among us wouldn't struggle in these temps?

Tater Tot is fully vaccinated and neutered and ready to settle into a calm, loving home that will help him enjoy his golden years in comfort and style.

Vaccinated for rabies, DHPP, and bordetella, heartworm negative, neutered and microchipped. Current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.

To apply for Funny, visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for an adoption application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. We are currently unable to respond to general email inquiries as an all-volunteer run rescue. If the dog is on our website, they are still available.

Waggytail Rescue CANNOT guarantee the exact age of any adoptable dog, or final size of any of our adoptable puppies. We rely on the information provided to us by veterinarians, shelters, owner surrenders and other circumstances bringing the dog into our rescue.

Adoptions: adopt@waggytailrescue.org
