Tate's Story

**Please note - Tate is currently recovering from surgery and will be available when fully healed.

Tater, known to everyone as Tate, arrived at a rural shelter as a stray alongside two companions. Terrified of people, he kept his distance, slowly learning to trust through the patience of dedicated volunteers. Tate found confidence in the presence of his bonded friends, but when one was adopted, he was left confused and alone.

A kind volunteer stepped in to foster him, hoping to give Tate the calm he needed. But fear took over. Tate escaped his enclosure and disappeared, beginning a 3½-week journey no dog should ever endure. Thanks to tireless community efforts, he was finally found, but the ordeal had taken its toll. Tate had lost 15 pounds and suffered a broken leg.

Today, Tate is safe with The Dallas Ranch, a nonprofit rescue. He has since had surgery to repair his leg and is recovering in a foster home, learning once again that humans can be trusted. His story sparked change, too. The shelter he came from is now implementing a Fi collar program to help ensure this never happens again.

Tate’s journey was preventable. With a Fi collar, he could have been found sooner and spared so much pain. His story is exactly why tracking matters.
