Tara's Story
Over 18 million dogs live on Mexico's streets. The Meximutt Project, a BAPBR initiative, tackles this crisis at the source—through comprehensive spay/neuter programs and by connecting rescued dogs with loving Oregon families.

Since 2019: 400+ dogs adopted, 3,200+ spayed/neutered.

INTERESTED IN ADOPTING? No, not 100% yet -- Please keep in mind that our dogs are rescued off the streets, they are NOT always 100% housebroken and will need time and patience to adjust. Even in a foster home in Mexico, the dogs are often living in an environment with no carpet or grass or living outside. In the house, it is usually tile flooring and outside it is dirt/concrete. Most of our dogs transition well and only need about 1-2 weeks to get on a potty schedule/routine.

• LOCATION: Currently in Guadalajara foster care. 2-4 weeks to arrange flight once adoption is approved

**Meet Tara**

When someone abandoned Tara and her four babies in a fruit container outside a veterinarian's office near Lake Chapala, they had no idea they were leaving behind one of the most devoted mothers you'll ever meet. What they saw as the end of their responsibility became the beginning of Tara's greatest act of love.

Despite her young age, this remarkable girl had already made an unbreakable promise to her puppies: no matter what happened, she would keep them safe. And she did.

**Bravery in a Small Package**

When our veterinarian called to alert us about a young mother dog outside their office, we rushed over to find something heartbreaking and beautiful. There was Tara, anxiously watching over a fruit container where her four babies lay wrapped in a blanket—unable to reach them herself, but refusing to leave.

In that moment, this brave young mother did something remarkable: she alerted the rescuers to her babies' presence, essentially asking for help when she couldn't solve the problem alone. Despite her fear and uncertainty, she trusted humans enough to show them what mattered most.

"She's such a natural mom," her foster family observes. "Despite being so young, she's mature and brave in ways that take your breath away."

Even now, in the safety of her foster home, Tara's devotion to her children shines through every interaction. She watches over them with the quiet confidence of someone who has already proven she can handle whatever life throws their way. Her love is both gentle and fierce—soft enough to comfort, strong enough to protect.

This isn't just instinct at work; this is character. Tara could have given up during those frightening days on her own, but giving up simply wasn't in her vocabulary. Not when four little lives depended on her.

**Beyond Motherhood**

As her puppies prepare to find their forever homes soon, Tara is discovering who she is beyond being "mom." And what's emerging is just as beautiful—a young dog with such strength and quiet calmness in her character, seemingly able to take anything life throws her way.

She's proven she can love unconditionally, protect fearlessly, and nurture endlessly. Now she's ready to discover what it means to be loved and protected in return. After giving everything to her children, Tara deserves to be someone's everything.

She's young enough to enjoy many years of adventures ahead, but wise enough to have true gratitude for the simple gift of having a safe home and a loving family to belong to.

Are you ready to give this hero the happy ending she's earned?

***************************************

READY TO APPLY?
