Tanner's Story

Meet Tanner!

Tanner is the most gentle and loving Pibble, who ho melts hearts everywhere he goes - and is the epitome of a good boy!

Tanners Origin Story
Tanner was rescued from a high Kill-Shelter in Los Angeles - well, just in time. At just 3 and a half years old, Tanner was by all accounts, too beautiful inside and out, to lose the opportunity to find the life her deserves. The volunteers there promoted him for rescue on Instagram, emphasizing his sweet nature, calm manner, low energy, and Worthy life. Two North Shore, Massachusetts friends contacted Hearts when they saw the urgent post, and working together, they immediately moved forward to coordinate his multi-leg (including private plane!) travel to New England. Most importantly, we provided him with a safe and loving landing until we find his perfect, loving forever home.

About this Incredible Boy
The Los Angeles volunteers couldn't have been more accurate about their assessment of Tanner, except maybe his energy level! Once you get to know this cuddle bug, you'll see he is a medium-energy dog, who loves Fetch (and can fetch as well as any Golden Retriever!), Tug-of-War, and a good walk. That said, he is amenable for almost anything, including lounging with you, driving with you, or just Being.

Toys (and Treats)
There is no toy Tanner doesn't enjoy. This boy LOVES toys and can self-soothe and play for considerable time with toys. You will never need to wonder what to buy him for Birthdays or holidays or just because. We cant emphasize how much Tanner appreciates a squeaky object or ball. Oh, and I think we can say the same for treats and pup cups!

Going Forward
Given Tanners background, which includes being dropped off at a high Kill-Shelter with a bonded smaller dog (who they didn't keep together), he deserves time, patience, and lots of love. Every person who has spent time with Tanner has seen him sweet and gentle with children, other dogs, and humans. That said, he can get overstimulated with too many dogs around him, and hasnt learned some social graces that dogs who are well-loved from puppyhood, have ingrained. It is important for whomever adopts Tanner to give him understanding, and some training, because he's just inches away from being the Perfect Dog. Oh, and regarding strength... he is around 60 pounds, and he's strong. Strong, but gentle.

Other Attributes
It took some time, but Tanner now works well on a leash with minimal pulling.
Tanner listens extremely well he is very in tune to the humans he loves and he yearns to please them.
Tanner appears highly intelligent he knows the Sit Command, and on the cusp of knowing All Done, Easy (for taking treats), and Stay.
Tanner is house-trained.
Tanner doesn't make a mess in your house. He has not broken or dropped or knocked over a single thing during foster care.

Interested?
Tanner is just the BEST BOY you could ever meet. He gives kisses and can/will hug you with his front arms. If you are gentle, have some training experience, and have the patience (and a little muscle!) to give him his BEST LIFE, we want to hear from you! If you have any questions after reading this, please send contact us via our website. If you're interested in adopting Tanner, please go to our website to complete an adoption application.

Adoption Info:
- Apply at https://www.heartsandtails.org/adoption-application
- Due to high inquiry volume, only applicants who appear to be a good match will be contacted.
