Tank's Story

Meet the big guy! We absolutely adore this 120-lb ball of fluff. Tank came to us from Pima County after his family surrendered him to the shelter. Highlights from his shelter notes: “big,” “huge,” “massive.” What we’ve seen from him is that he is a big lover, a huge snuggler, and a massive fan of head scratches.

Tank draws a crowd wherever he goes! He does well with anyone who gives him pets, and has also done very well with older children (ages 10 and up.) He’s never met a stranger, so he will need a firm and patient handler to teach him boundaries. He is dog selective and tries to mount other dogs, so for his safety and the comfort of those around him, we believe he needs a playmate close to his own size – the other dogs in his foster home are all on the larger side!

He’s mastered the doggie door and needs to have yard of his own. While he’s done well with similarly sized playmates, we also feel he would do fine as an only dog. He is not super treat motivated, but he loves tennis balls and his toy “Chickie.”

Tank loves walking in the pool to cool down his feet, and is definitely what we would call a “velcro dog” with his humans! He will follow you everywhere and always wants to be a part of it.
His foster has been working on basic commands with him – he does know ‘sit’ and ‘shake’ and will accept correction from both other dogs and humans – a simple verbal “No, Tank” along with a consistent approach will go a long way with him!

Special considerations:
At intake, his coat was a matted mess, so we treated him to a spa day–truly, a full 8-hour day at the groomer’s. Due to his luscious locks, we recommend consistent brushing and visits to the groomer every 4-6 weeks.

If you have previous malamute experience, and are willing to work with Tank on boundaries and consistent grooming, we’d love to hear more about you!

Apply to adopt Tank here: https://azhuskyrescue.com/adoption-application/
