Tammie's Story

Meet Tammie!

Tammie is a sweet 2-year-old Australian Cattle Dog mix weighing approximately 26 lbs, and she is slowly discovering that the world can be a safe place.

Tammie came into rescue after being found abandoned with her mom and siblings. She is a very shy girl who is still learning to trust people, but she is making progress every day. She may not be the dog who runs up looking for attention, but if you give her space and let her come to you, she will slowly approach to sniff your hand, give you a little lick, or quietly ask for some affection.

Her foster family says she is gentle, quiet, kind, and incredibly sweet. She is also doing very well with the other animals in the home.

One of Tammie's biggest strengths is how well she walks on a leash. She walks right alongside her person without pulling and responds well to simple cues like "this way" and "inside." She has also gone from being nervous about doors, sounds, and stairs to confidently navigating some stairs on her own.

Tammie loves food and is eating very well. She is also beginning to relax more and is finally taking longer naps, especially when she can curl up on the couch beside her person. She isn't quite ready to be a cuddle bug, but she clearly enjoys having her people nearby.

Tammie is still working on house training and crate training. She becomes very upset when confined to her crate, so her future family will need to be patient and continue building her confidence slowly. She will also need a secure environment, especially outside, as she is a shy girl who could be a flight risk.

Tammie isn't looking for a busy home or someone who expects her to become confident overnight. She needs someone who understands that trust takes time and is willing to let her come out of her shell at her own pace.

But if you're the kind of person who finds joy in watching a scared dog slowly discover that she is safe, Tammie could be incredibly special.

She doesn't need to be rushed. She just needs someone willing to wait for her. Tammie is ready to find the person who will show her that she never has to be afraid again.

Fostered in Queensville, ON
