Tami's Story

Tami is an approximately 4 year old white & tan long-backed dog. Her DNA test says she is 49% Chihuahua and 10% Dachshund plus a dozen other small breeds! but she is built like and shaped like a standard Dachshund. Tami weighs 18 pounds.
Tami came into rescue from a Fresno shelter immensely pregnant and gave birth to 7 puppies only 48 hours after being transferred to rescue care (see photo). She was an unclaimed stray picked up by the side of a rural road.
Tami has been a terrific mother. She is house safe AND house and crate trained in foster care. She rides well in the car crated but will bark at strange voices in the drive-through - she definitely has that Dachshund protective alarm warning streak. Her leash work could use some improvement - she pulls, so a front harness and/or a remedial training class would be recommended.
Tami was starved before coming into rescue, and she will do anything for food - including getting into cupboards. This will take some time and patience (and child safety latches) to manage.
Tami does very well with other dogs, but she does love to hunt in our pasture field so I would suspect NO cats. She has not been exposed to children . No apartments or condos or townhomes; Tami has that watchdog Doxie mentality and will bark to warn her people of any or all trespassers.
This is a dog with a great personality who will blossom in the right home with active adopters who like to walk and sniff.
Tami is in foster care in Clatskanie, Oregon. Jack Russell Rescue Oregon Washington & Idaho's Adoption Policy
We require an approved application before setting up a meet with any of our dogs. In most cases, secure fencing is a must - exceptions may be made for certain "Velcro" dogs and isolated rural properties, or for urban adopters who run daily. Except for certain dogs, no kids under the age of 6 is our rule of thumb, but it depends again on the dog and on the kids. We have a 2 to 3 week trial adoption period for all our dogs - we want everyone to be happy - and we back our dogs up for their lifetimes. Thank you for thinking of a rescue Jack!
