Sweetie Pie #1's Story

Animal Rescue of the Rockies believes every pet should find a wonderful and caring home. To ensure Sweetie Pie finds the best possible home, we ask you fill out our
adoption application
so we can learn more about you and your household. We review each application in the order submitted and will contact you within 48 hours
(please check your spam folder for our emails)
.

Sweetie Pie | 5-year-old Hound Mix | Big feelings, bigger heart

Sweetie Pie is a handsome 45-pound hound mix with a soft, affectionate side and a whole lot of personality. He’s the kind of dog who will rest his head on you for comfort, roll over for belly rubs, and happily soak up love from anyone willing to give it. He enjoys car rides, loves getting out for walks, and is highly food-motivated—which makes him both endearing and a great candidate for continued training.

Sweetie Pie has a higher energy level and absolutely needs a large, securely fenced yard where he can run and stretch his legs. He does have that classic hound wanderlust, so he’ll need a home where he isn’t left unattended in the yard and his adventures are safely supervised. Now that he’s completed heartworm treatment, he’s ready to live the active life he was born for—long walks, hikes, runs, and car rides are all right up his alley.

Walks can be a bit of a work in progress right now. Sweetie Pie finds leashes stressful and has shown reactivity toward other dogs, people, and wheeled objects. He also has a very strong prey drive and cannot live with cats. With consistent training and structured guidance, he has great potential to build confidence and improve his leash manners over time.

In the home, Sweetie Pie thrives on structure but is still learning how to settle. He should be crated when left alone, though crate time can be a mixed experience—sometimes he settles quickly, and other times he may bark for a while before relaxing. He is also crated at night and may need some time to fully wind down. Consistency and patience will go a long way in helping him feel secure.

Sweetie Pie may do well with the right dog but appears to be selective, so slow and thoughtful introductions will be important. He has also shown some guarding behavior with high-value items, especially if he grabs something he shouldn’t (he’s a bit of a counter surfer when bored). Because of this, he would do best in an adult-only home or one with older, dog-savvy children who understand and respect boundaries.

At his core, Sweetie Pie is exactly what his name suggests—a sweet, loving dog who just needs the right environment and guidance to thrive. With an experienced, patient adopter committed to structure and training, he has so much potential to become a loyal and deeply rewarding companion.

If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives! A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you.

The adoption fee for this pet is $375. Our adoption fee covers the following:

Spay/neuter

Microchip

DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog.

Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog.

Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption.

Please fill out an adoption application by clicking
here
. Please give us 48 hours to review your application and respond to you. (Remember to check your spam folder for our emails!) We want our pets to go to a lifelong new home, so thank you for your patience during the adoption process!

Please email dogs@arrcolorado.org for more information, as we can't accept calls.
PLEASE NOTE: The breed listed is the information we've received from the shelter. Shelters usually guess at the breed, so there is no guarantee, as we don't DNA test our foster pets. Here is some interesting info on breed identification: https://arrcolorado.org/category/puppy-dog-tips/

Our adoption process is:

1. Fill out our Adoption Application online. We'll contact you within 48 hours to answer any questions you may have about the pet.

2. If the pet looks like a great match, we'll schedule a meet and greet and ask you to fill out our online Adoption Agreement if you'd like to proceed with adopting. Once you've completed the Adoption Agreement and pay the pet's Adoption Fee, you can arrange to pick up your new furry family member!
