Sweetie's Story
SWEETIE AND HER BEST FRIENDS WILL BE AT A MEET AND GREET/ADOPTION EVENT AT PET EVOLUTIONON ON 1074 GRAND IN ST. PAUL (UNLESS SHE IS ADOPTED BEFORE THEN). COME AND CUDDLE AND MAYBE FIND YOUR NEXT BEST FRIEND. Saturday October 10 12:30 -2:30.

Sweetie and her 3 siblings were surrendered by a family with limited financial resources who dearly wanted their puppies to get good homes and knew they could not manage that in their remote area. PUP volunteers helped them with puppy chow and health care until they were old enough to leave their mommy. They arrived at PUP healthy and well socialized. Mommy was a mid-sized dog be we didn’t get a picture. Sweetie weighed 6.4# on 9-29 and the vet aged her at 7 weeks old. We believe Sweetie will be a mid-sized dog but her adopter should be prepared to love and cherish her if she is smaller or larger than anticipated.

We sent DNA in for testing on brother Tuck and expect the results back about October 15. For now we are guessing and suspect the pups are a Aussie, cattle dog, husky miniature American shepherd cross. Nearly all of the dogs from the area have some husky, German Shepherd and, oddly, some Chihuahua. It is not uncommon for dogs to have 30 verified breeds in their DNA. Puppy is used to going outside to play and does her potty outside then, but doesn’t understand and doesn’t have the bladder control quite yet to hold it until she gets out. She is ready to begin housebreaking.

The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog.

Puppy has been vet checked, is vaccinated, and de-wormed. She will need two additional puppy vaccinations plus rabies at the adopter’s expense. We do place puppies outside the metro area if a firm plan for the alter surgery is in place; we do not ship. Her required alter surgery is covered by the adoption fee if it is done by 6 months at the PUP clinic. We require that she be altered by 6 months.

If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. We are pretty slow at responding to e-mail. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. If you currently have a companion dog or cat please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption if requested.

Sweetie can be seen and selected now and go to her new home after October 9.
