Sweetie's Story

A059773 Sweetie; spayed female Boxer/Bulldog mix; est. 2 years; 73 lbs

Contact : Calaveras County Animal Services (209)754-6509
or animal@calaverascounty.gov

Meet Sweetie!

Found straying near Cement Bridge on Highway 49 just north of the Calaveras County Airport, Sweetie is such a loving, happy, playful dog that somebody ought to be missing her terribly. No one has come forward, however. Now our shelter staff and volunteers go to work, keeping her safe, loving her up, and finding her a new home.

Besides Sweetie's easygoing, affectionate temperament, she has a relatively advanced level of training. She responds beautifully to sit, down, and stay hand only commands, things that dogs are generally taught when someone wants to show them in obedience. She loves treats and happily works to get them, hopping up on couches, rocks, and various chairs on command. She loves to play ball, as well.

Sweetie walks well on leash, but occasionally she gets the scent of something irresistible, and then she will pull. And boy is this girl strong! Her walkers have learned to stay alert so as not to get yoinked along for a ride.

Sweetie's kennel is tidy but not 100%. She may not understand where the potty spot ought to be in the strange shelter kennels. We wouldn't want anyone to count on her being accident-free as she settles into a new home, but in light of her other excellent manners, we'd guess she would not be too hard to housetrain.

Sweetie will need to be spayed before she can go home with you; she has a vet appointment this week, so it won't be long till she's good to go home with you.

We do not have info on her attitude toward cats at this time.

A meet-and-greet is required if you have other dogs at home.
