Sweet Pea's Story
Sweet Pea is a 6-month-old Boxer puppy who truly lives up to her name. She exudes innocence, gentleness, and a sweetness that melts hearts the moment you meet her. Sweet Pea came into rescue after she could not be sold by a puppy mill—and we’re so grateful she found her way to us, where she could finally be seen for who she is: a puppy who deserves love, patience, and a future full of joy.

Early on, we noticed some tell-tale signs of hydrocephalus (fluid on the brain), and a neurology consult with a subsequent MRI confirmed the diagnosis. While this sounds scary, it’s important to know that in **so many ways, Sweet Pea is just like any other Boxer puppy**—silly, hilarious, loyal, and absolutely adorable. She brings laughter wherever she goes.

Sweet Pea is learning all the normal puppy things. She sleeps quietly through the night in her crate, is working on chewing only appropriate items (though she does love a good shoe theft—watch out! ), and is making progress with potty training. She **loves toys**, happily chews on her Benebone, and has recently discovered how wonderful treats are.

Potty training can be a bit more challenging for dogs with hydrocephalus, and Sweet Pea may have accidents if left for long stretches of time. Because of this, a home where she wouldn’t be left alone for a full workday, and someone is home more often for potty breaks, would be the best fit for her. She is also used to having a fenced in yard and isn't super confident with leash walking yet.

Sweet Pea is wonderful with other dogs and loves to play. A canine sibling would need to be tolerant of typical puppy antics and the classic Boxer pounce. She truly doesn’t have a mean bone in her body and approaches the world with curiosity and love. She’s curious with the kitty in her foster home, too.

Hydrocephalus does mean there are some unknowns in Sweet Pea’s future. She has the potential to live a very normal life, but her forever family should be comfortable with the possibility of changing medical needs, more than routine vet care, and keeping a close eye on subtle behavior changes. Her foster mom is always happy to talk through what her condition means and answer any questions for those who are interested but unsure. She is on an affordable daily medication, which she takes easily when paired with cheese—her favorite delivery method.

What we know for certain is this: **Sweet Pea is the kind of puppy who steals your heart and fills your home with joy**. She is unforgettable.

Sweet Pea’s MRI, spay (scheduled through the rescue), microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations, and preventatives are all included in her adoption fee. Her medical costs already are beyond any adoption fee that could reasonably be asked. All she needs now is the right family—one ready to love her exactly as she is.
