Swartz's Story
Meet Swartz 🤍

At just 1.5 years old and around 45 lbs, Swartz is a gentle, soulful boy who is still learning what it truly means to be a dog. Likely a hound mix (just our best guess!), he has a quiet and shy nature—but beneath that is an incredibly sweet, loving and goofy heart just waiting to fully shine.

Swartz came to us from a large hoarding situation in Flint, where over 100 animals were came from one, overrun and neglectful home. When he first arrived, he was absolutely terrified of the world around him. Simple things—like a leash or human touch—were overwhelming. He would crocodile roll in fear, run away at any opportunity, and even urinate when approached.

Fast forward just over three months in foster care, and the transformation is nothing short of incredible. Those who met Swartz in his early days truly wouldn’t believe the progress he’s made 🌞

Today, Swartz chooses connection. He comes up for affection and has learned that human touch can be safe—and even enjoyable. He’s discovered toys, loves to romp around the yard with his canine friends, and boy is he FAST! He has started showing off his goofy, playful side. Despite being around 1.5 years old, there are still many puppy-like moments to him. He is incredibly smart and picks up on routines and new experiences quickly, but he’s also known to keep his people on their toes with his curious antics and occasional mischief. While he’s an easy-going dog overall, he still has plenty to learn about the world and will need a family committed to continuing his growth and helping him reach his full potential.

He walks BEAUTIFULLY on a leash, rides well in the car (though he may still drool a little), and even hops in on his own now! In the home, he has done great going potty outside and has taken to sleeping at the end of the bed at night. One of his favorite things is simply being near his people, often choosing to lay across your feet or legs while you relax.

Swartz is currently fostered with other dogs, cats, and even a macaw—and he does wonderfully with all of them. Because of his background, we are requiring another confident dog in the home to help continue guiding him and building his confidence. He thrives in chaos 😅

Swartz is the definition of a soft, innocent soul with a trickle of toddler trouble. Watching him blossom has been an absolute privilege, and we know his perfect family is out there—someone patient, kind, and ready to continue showing him the love he’s just beginning to understand. He is the perfect combination of a playful buddy for your dog and an easy, sweet addition to your day. All the perks, all the reward!

He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm tested, and microchipped—ready to start his next chapter.

If he sounds like something you are looking for, click the link below to get started! 🐾

Adoption App:

https://petstablished.com/adoption_form/40532/generic
