Sunflower Dec 25's Story
Date into Rescue: 12/12/25
Reason for being in rescue: owner release/can't care for
Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Special Needs? None noted -
Weight: 7 lbs now - anticipate 35 pounds when full grown but this is ONLY a guess
Height: About 8" at the shoulder now - anticipate 18" at the shoulder when full grown but this is ONLY a guess
Spayed/Neutered: No - Sunflower will be adopted on a spay contract that requires her to be spayed before her first birthdate.

Adoption Fee: $499

Fence needed? No - but if you do not have a fence, please plan to discuss with us your plans for off leash exercise at least two times per week for at least one hour each week.

What kind of home would be best for me? Sunshine is looking for a home with LOVE in the form of human companionship. She is still a baby so much is still new to her but she does know she wants people. Lots and lots of people!

Puppies are always in need of a canine friend, they love to run and play with one another. Puppies are active, agile little babies, they need homes that are ready to tire them out both mentally and physically, so a fenced in yard will be required. Puppies are generally very well rounded dogs, they do not meet strangers and would do well with a nice big family or a single owner! What matters most to a puppy is a happy and excited owner ready to take on loving and training their new puppy! When raised around cats, with proper boundaries, puppies do very well. If you expect your puppy to get alone with your feline buddy, it’s important to start socializing the puppy with the cat as soon as you can!

What is my personality like? We've only had Sunshine a few days but this is what we know so far - This from our volunteer who picked her up and had her in her home for 6 days.

She's looking for a home where her people are home more than away. She's having a hard time crate training so I wouldn't recommend an apartment (she can be vocal about it). She prefers dogs her own size. She was scared of Loui (the resident standard poodle) when playing but loved Little Man ( a senior toy poodle mix).

She's smart but mischievous, she likes wires, chewing on Christmas trees and cardboard boxes. She talks to you when she wants attention or disagrees with you and spins in circles for meals. She seems much more people orientated than dog oriented but another dog would be helpful for her energy.

PUPPY POLICY:

Thank you for carefully considering the addition of a puppy to your family. Puppies can be a joyous experience, but they can also be a tremendous amount of work. Since our goal is to place each of our dogs in forever homes, we are especially cautious with puppies. We like to stress 3 major things when considering a puppy vs. an adult dog: 1) many adult dogs are well bred, well trained dogs who find themselves in rescue through no fault of their own, 2) adult dogs are eager to share their love and bond with their new family, and 3) puppies will always require far more time, energy, and training than an adult dog.

Our ideal puppy adopters are:
-experienced dog owners with a solid record of excellent vet care of their previous pets
-scheduled away from home for no more than 4 hours per day and have another canine companion already in the home
-stay at home type of people (work at home, home schoolers, retired, etc)

How do I act when I first meet new people? Puppy friendly and curious

Other tips and tidbits: We have not yet tested Sunshine with cats.

Sunshine has not received any vetting work that we have any sort of documentation on (no vaccines, no deworming documented). We are assuming the vaccine she received 12/18/25 was her first one. She has also been dewormed once (she had a very heavy worm load based on what she excreted after the deworming) and she will need dewormed several more times over the next few months. She will also need several more vaccines. Your vet can guide you through this process.

Sunshine was thin when she arrived in rescue. We are feeding her 3 times per day. She bolts her food so we are using a slow feeder for her.

For heritage - we do not know. If you have allergies, I would not apply. We were told that her father was a 50 lb standard poodle and her mother was a 35 lb standard poodle. However, this was second hand and we have no way of knowing if this is correct. We were not given the name and contact info for her original origins. She has a coarse coat that may just be puppy coat or she may be mixed. What she is is downright adorable!

If you do not have another dog, we also need to discuss with your your firm plans for socialization with other dogs. Puppies need play dates - a minimum of 2 times per week for a minimum of 1 hour per play date. This can be incorporated with the off leash play. It will let you have a well rounded, happy to lucky dog.

House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
