Suki (aka Ducki)'s Story

Suki (aka “Ducki”) is estimated to be around 3–4 years old, though we suspect she may actually be a little younger based on her very puppy-like behavior and energy level. She is a bully-type mix weighing approximately 35–40 pounds of absolute love, chaos, intelligence, and enthusiasm.

Suki is an extremely people-social dog who genuinely adores humans. In her mind, every person she meets is a best friend, and ideally a launch pad for affection. She is currently working on her jumping manners, though her athleticism and natural rebound ability would make her an excellent candidate for disc sports or similar dog sports activities.

This is not a low-maintenance dog. Suki thrives in an active home with an experienced handler who understands that mental stimulation is just as important as physical exercise. Her brain constantly wants a job. She learns exceptionally fast and absolutely loves training. Clicker training comes naturally to her, and with several short training sessions throughout the day, Suki rapidly picks up new skills and behaviors. She would excel with an owner interested in advanced obedience, trick training, agility, Frisbee, hiking, or other structured activities. She will possible overwhelm an inexperienced handler.

Suki is currently learning impulse control and focus skills and is doing phenomenal with both. She can sometimes display what we jokingly describe as “canine ADHD” during play or exciting situations. She becomes overstimulated easily and can come in “hot,” especially around other dogs. When frustrated or overly excited, she may vocalize with high-pitched barking or screaming. This is frustration and excitement-based behavior, not aggression.

Because of this, Suki requires either: a patient, balanced dog companion, or
an experienced handler who understands arousal management, structured introductions, and impulse control work.

Since entering rescue, Suki has successfully integrated with multiple dogs ranging from high-drive playmates to calmer, avoidant personalities. She has actually benefited greatly from having stable canine companions around her. She takes correction appropriately, adjusts well to balanced dogs, and has shown excellent social growth. She genuinely wants interaction and play and is continuing to learn appropriate social skills.

Suki is crate trained and kennel trained, though she does better in a larger crate where she has room to reposition and settle comfortably. We suspect smaller crates make her feel somewhat confined or claustrophobic.

She is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped.

Suki’s ideal home is one that understands working the mind matters just as much as working the body. A few minutes of consistent engagement multiple times a day goes much farther with her than hours of aimless activity. She is the kind of dog that will give back every ounce of effort invested into her — and then ask you what lesson comes next.
