Sugar 's Story

Sugar is one of 3 shepherds that were dumped in a Surrey Blueberry field in March 2024. At that time they were approximately 9 months old. She was in the shelter for 2 years before she found a very temporary foster at the beginning of April 2026.

Sugar was the most fearful of the 3 shepherds and has had less interactions or positive interactions with humans . She is not aggressive, but needs someone who is patient, providing routine, structure, and stability. We do not want her to be continuously moved from home to home.

She would love a home to call her own. She would probably do really well in a single dog home, because she has more opportunity to bond with her humans.

She LOVES to play with other large breed dogs, but that dog should not be fearful or submissive. She does have slight prey drive so should not live or be allowed to be loose with small dogs, cats, or small farm animals.

She’s an incredible dog — calm, well-behaved, and unfazed even when other dogs are barking. She enjoys her on leash walks, loves playing fetch, and is just as happy spending quiet time on her own. She’s independent and not clingy — a wonderfully balanced companion.

Sugar is still gaining confidence with urban noises (especially loud trucks), but she’s improving every day. She would thrive in a home that gives her the space and patience to grow at her own pace, without expecting her to be overly affectionate or a lap dog.

She’s goofy, funny, and full of love in her own unique way.

We are seeking a foster or foster to adopt home within the lower mainland only. Detached ADULT home only. No apartments please. Fully fenced yard in a quiet rural area would be ideal.

Sugar is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed and flea treated. Her adoption fee is by donation to the right home

Please copy and paste the following link into your web browser to complete an adoption application.

www.lowermainlandhumanesociety.org/adoption-application/

A home visit is required.
