Sugar's Story

Sugar is her name and she sure is sweet but don’t worry about any extra calories. Sugar doesn’t seem to know any commands and frankly seems to have little interest in learning any; she does have a bit of that stubborn demeanor we see in our Boxers sometimes. But, she is extremely well behaved and is such a gentle, mellow girl.

Sugar loves her walks and is friendly with human passers-by but prefers a proper introduction to unknown pooches. Sugar does give us a taste of Boxer zoomies and kidney beaning but mostly she just likes hanging out on a bed (dog or hooman) or crashed out on the carpet. She reads our resident boy the riot act if he is on a bed she wants to be on until he moves off, which always makes us laugh.

She is learning to play with toys a bit but is still more interested in a good scratch or maybe a collagen stick to chew on. While she has worked up to being more comfortable in a crate for a short time she prefers her freedom and does not disturb anything.

She is a super-snuggler with both people and her foster brother. The resident cat here keeps her in-line easily while the outdoor cats have mixed feelings about her, mostly dependent on how invested Sugar is in sniffing their behinds 😉.

Sugar commutes with us to our warehouse on a daily basis, using doggy stairs to get into the car or sometimes just hopping in. She settles in the car like a champ and keeps a watch out the front office door in “her” chair at the reception area. While Sugar came to us from another rescue who thought she was deaf it was quickly obvious that she is just hearing impaired, mixed with a bit of that selective hearing we know and love.

Due to hearing impairment and propensity to want to go out the doors; older kids would probably be a better fit for Sugar.

***For more information about this dog and information on how to apply to adopt, please visit www.ncbr.org***

Adoption Process At a Glance.

- Step 1 – Fill out the Adoption Application
- Step 2 – Preliminary Screening by Application Team which includes a Landlord Check (if applicable) and Vet Check
- Step 3 – Meeting with appropriate boxer(s)
- Step 4 – Home Visit
- Step 5 – Adoption Day

Adoption Requirements At a Glance.

* You must be 21 years of age.
* You must have a fenced in yard (exceptions can be made for certain dogs).
* All current pets in the household MUST be spayed/neutered and current on shots (yes, we do call and verify this information).
* Applicants with young children will be required to answer additional questions.
* Applicants that rent must provide landlord contact info.
