Stuart's Story
Now Accepting Applications for Stuart!

Stuart’s story isn’t a simple one. He came to us in February from one of our California shelter partners after spending far too long being overlooked. The shelter environment took a toll on him — and like many dogs who’ve been through too much, he didn’t always know how to handle the world around him. He wanted love. He tried to give love. But he was conflicted. So we listened.
After giving him time and letting him decompress, finding him the right foster home - one without other dogs was less stressful for him and easier on the foster lol, and ruling out medical issues, all without much success, we started Stuart on fluoxetine (commonly known as Prozac) — and everything changed. Not a small change. A complete transformation!!

For over three weeks now, the anxious, reactive version of Stuart hasn’t shown up. What we see instead is who he truly is:
A sweet, gentle soul
A snuggler
A zoomie enthusiast
A loyal little shadow who just wants to belong

This is the dog Stuart was always meant to be.
Stuart has been waiting a long time to feel safe in this world.
And now that he finally does… we can’t let him lose it.

His foster family has a planned trip coming up, and we urgently need a safe, calm place for Stuart from April 25 to May 9 if he isn’t adopted before then. Even better? A forever home!

Stuart is a senior 10 yrs young, Chihuahua mix - (with those long, lanky legs we swear came from a little Italian Greyhound somewhere along the way). He’s just 12 pounds of pure heart, currently safe in foster care in Nanaimo.

He is neutered, fully vaccinated, heartworm negative, microchipped, and just had a dental cleaning with extractions — he is ready.
Ready for a couch.
Ready for a person.
Ready to finally exhale.

What Stuart needs is a forever soul mate who understands that dogs, like people, sometimes need a little support to feel okay in the world — and that there is absolutely no shame in that.
In return, he will give you everything he has.

So here’s what were looking for:
A forever home that will love him and keep him safe forever
or A temporary foster from April 25 to May 9 to keep him safe and stable until his current foster comes back

Please help us keep this good thing going for him.
Apply to adopt or foster: www.nadrs.org/adopt for adoption applications
and www.nadrs.org/volunteer for foster applications
